I wouldn't do it on a regular basis but in a pinch I did.
Not sure what the amp draw on the truck is at startup so I can't say what the safety issues are.
Probably would do it again rather than be stuck with no other reasonable options.

Me either. Doesn't seem to rate real high on the list of crazy things I've done.

Ignite the hydrogen gas associated with lead acid batteries and you may not see a problem with anything.

Like I said, just throwing a bit of caution in the thread. Do what you like.

Have you seen the sparks when attaching jumpers at any point in your life?

No. I went bare but squinted my eyes while I did it.

Do you really type just to hear the keys click?

Hey, ever power a electric trolling motor with a lipo. I have. We have a electric trolling motor at our club pond and with 5.5mm plugs on it. A 5000 mah battery will get you about 3 or 4 round trip recoveries with a 14ft(est) metal boat with about a "3" on the speed setting which is a nice clip. I actually measured the amp pull and it was very low. Works great...

                            60 amp draw on a v6, 80 on a v8. I measured the V6, v8 number off the internet.
4s 5000 at storage charge, took 3 seconds to start. Battery went from 3.85 to 3.80 per cell.

Maybe two in parallel would a more cautious approach. But I've heard of people starting cars with a 4s pack. I'd certainly do it if I was stuck with a flat battery.
Well a 5000mah 60c pack has 300amps to offer up. As jcald2000 pointed out 60 -80 Amps for three seconds. And we run those packs in boats pulling 150 + Amps for 2 - 4 minutes.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

The LiPo battery is not the main cause for concern in this case. Igniting the hydrogen gas associated with lead acid batteries is. (To some.)
