Here's finishing instructions that may be helpful. I copied and pasted from Zippkits FE rigger plans.

Sand the tub and sponsons, but be sure
    to leave the overhangs.
Fill any holes or imperfections with wood
    filler.
Sand everything with 150. Seal the tub and sponsons with epoxy
finishing resin or West Systems epoxy.
Be sure that all wood is sealed.
Scrape off as much epoxy as you can. It
    will make sanding easier.
When cured, sand with 150 and recoat
    with epoxy.
This coat will use far less
    resin than the first.
When this cures, wet sand the bottom of
    everything with 220.
If you are painting, sand the entire boat
with 220. Now is the time for primer. Wet
sand the primer with 400, and use spot
putty to fill any imperfections. Wet sand
with 400 and lay on a heavy coat of
primer. Wet sand with 600-800 and
    paint.

If painting hull be sure to use paint manufacturers matching primer and paint to prevent pealing when removing hatch tape. I used Summitracing's high build urethane primer surfacer. From the can this stuff is too thick to spray using 5mm tip HVLP gun. You must thin it down lots until it sprays well. Then I sprayed over primer using Summitracing's Urethane paint.

The easiest and cheapest route is using Krylons matching primer and paint. I have had verygood luck with Krylon paint not pealing. Easy touch up also.

Lots of beautiful Whiplashes out there that have been clear coated only. I do not know how they do that. Epoxy hull, sand, then spray clear?

It has been awhile since I did any work on my whip20, but I finally made some more progress. I decided to scrap my sub-cowl design and opted to go with a glued front section like others have done. I did this to save weight and to simplify the tape down.

A little more sanding and she will be ready for primer.

What Medusa is that? 36-70-2000kv? I have the 36-60-2000kv in mine, but will switch to the 36-60-2200 soon as I free it up from use in one of my tunnels! Mike

                Yep. It's a 36-70-2000kv. I plan to use it for my P-sport setup with a x642.

Nice job on your hull construction, i too plan on going with a permanantly mounted canopy nose section mated to removable aft cowling(no sub-hatch) on my Whip 20. I used a Vacu-pickle non-turbine styrene cowl. Just curious as to why your going with 3/16 flex and HS645mg servo on a 20 size hull, seems like overkill.

Thanks. Good luck with your build. Post some pics when you get it done.

Re: 3/16 flex and servo... Yeah, it's overkill, but it's what I had available.
My other larger boats use 3/16 cable and HS645 servos so I guess I did it for the sake of interchangeability between them.

I shot the first coat of primer last night. Now to tackle the pin holes in the cowl.
I have an idea that may make short work of filling them. I'll give it a try and report back with my results.

Great job on the fit of that cowl. It looks perfect...
Can't wait to see the paint job.

Forgot to mention what I used to fill the pin holes in the glass canopy. This stuff works great. wipe on, wipe off. Linky

I did some mock up work this week, and I'm considering a Ducati sponsorship theme for my paint job on my whip 20 and whip 40. Something like this...
