Actually I've been chatting with Yurkanip about the "Jerry Dunlap Sponson Mod".
So far I'm not sure I need it, although more trials will tell. Worse case, since she runs so perfectly in the low fifties with the small prop I may just pop in a UL-1 motor for LSSH Spec running.

More runs today under the expert tutelage of Mr. UBHauled. First trial with the X642 using some older Neu 30C 4100's. Boat ran fine, but not up to speed potential [ As a benchmark, my 31" H&M shovel with the same powerplant/prop runs low 60's]. Jan suggested moving the CG back @ 1 inch. Put in a pair of old Elite 30C 5300's and big difference. Gained a few MPH, less wetting of the sponsons creating this effect I believe. Estimate high 50's. Unfortunately my very "punchy" 35C Elite 5000's wont fit; my 30C Zippy 5000's do but they're reserved for my tunnel only. Will likely order another set of Zippy's. Boat runs full throttle through the turns, BTW. Just beautiful. Temps were not an issue at all, very likely due in part to the superb Jeff Wohlt ball bearing strut and wire drive which makes driveline parasitic drag pretty much a non-issue. With newer batteries and more prop [which the 1515 1Y will easily handle], this will be a great runner.

awesome build man......i'm in the process of doing mine now...I have the same wire drive setup......you helped me do the finishing touches on how I seal the tunnel area....wish you had more detail how you did the front cowl mod...when you cut the front cowl what flexable material did you use to make that "male" flange that has to make that arc?

                i'm trying a feigao 11xl with 5's hoping to get high 50's

                    /QUOTE]

First I made a support arch out of 1/8" CF plate to keep it from distorting
[ overkill, but whatever] Did same on rear cowl part.
I cut a piece of plastic from a sheet of .030 styrene [ Midwest Products, LHS] and located it from underneath with a strip of Bondo self adhesive aluminum mesh body patch [ local auto parts store] This is great stuff, BTW. way easier to use than fiberglass cloth & holds epoxy well. Clamped & glued & epoxied. Much easier then it sounds !

An 11XL on 5S should do fine; just first make sure your batteries fit. Not much height to stuff in the 4S batteries. Zippy 4S's just squeeze in where they have to be to get the CG @ 2" behind sponson tip with 8 oz in the nose. My vidcam got ripped but I'll try to pursuade Jan to film the boat with his. With tired old Elites & a 642 the boat is in the low 50's with way more prop to go and some fresh batt's on the way should do much better. This boat handles So beautifully, full throttle, roostertail spewing turns

                      Hi all

I have a Miss Vegas which I have striped ready for a Brushless conversion

Would love some input from you guys on the choice of motor and ESC

I am thinking of Fiegao 8XL and either Hydra 120 or Etti 150

Or should I be looking at the 9xl

I want to run 1 22.1volt 6S lipo in the front?

Would this selection be ok? dont have the bucks for a Neu...

                      thanks

Feigao 9xl- Hydra 120, and 5s2p, running an x442-445 will be a good High 40's Vegas. This will be a nice fast setup, or if you want to stick with 4s lipo, get an 8xl or Neu 1515 1y.
But as you said, Neu motors are alittle more in price..you choose.

BTW, DO NOT run 6s on an 8xl, it will run really hot, and unless you have a cc120HV OR Hydra 240 with a really small prop.... 6s on an 8-9xl will be pointless.

Dean, I'm a "4S" guy; can't say what will work best with 6S, but definitely not an
8XL probably a good 6S motor could be an 11XL or such. Hopefully somebody with 6S experience will chime in. Once you decide on the motor, then choosing the correct SC will follow. Frankly, 2 Turnigy 4S 30C 5000's at Hobby King will cost around 130 bucks & then a 9XL with the ETTI will do well. [ My 31" shovel ran fine on 4S with a substitute 9XL BTW] Check out my Vegas vid in the Vid section.

In my UL-1...I fried my Hydra 120 using Nue 1515 1y and m445 prop (60mph). Using the smaller m440 prop the Hydra 120 esc lived, but ran too hot 175 degrees (55mph). Maybe the Etti 150 would be OK...do not know? I would use the higher quality 35c Hyperion cells (especially using 4s1p) to be on the safe side. I do know that low discharging cells will kill an ESC.

                                BTW... great job Properchopper
