You have to love a rainy day, Wife was over at her mum's doing her housework Daughter stayed here. We had some fun together and I got some bonding time with balsa !!
Here are the new sponsons so far. Fully sealed on both sides of each skin and ready for top coats of sealer and then varnish.
There is a 4mm 5/32" ride surface to go on the bottom and a .25mm veneer to go on the top as a dress skin.
At present the top and bottoms both have 3mm or just under 1/8" skins. The sides are 5mm or about 3/16 and all the internal frames are the same.
The test piece I made I could stand on in a vertical format.
I have done a rough calculation of volume and believe these will have enough bouyancy to support the rigger while at rest in the water. I will wait untill they are fully sealed, complete with boom receiver tubes and then to a float test.
If they need more volume then I can make them wider above the ride area.
As they are 35mm or 1-3/8"wde as opposed to the originals at 55mm 2"+ wide I believe I am on to a winner here. They are close to aerodynamically neutral too.
Enough of my typing for now.
Here they are as is.See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with woodComment

They survived the float test
I do not think the goldfish in our garden pond was too impressed.
I now have the top dark skins on and curing and the lower pads will go on tomorrow night.

I AM MOTIVATED. Please consider making cut kits available. I have built the Insanity outrigger by Osborne Models and was satisfied with its design, but yours is superior.
I would really like to build a duplicate, but do not have the resources to cut the wood.
thanks,

I have said it before to similar requests. I build for me alone. I have no no paper plans either. All my boats are built by eye from photographs.
As for cutting resources, I have a few small hobby knives, box cutters, and small hand saws. The only power tools I use on this type of build is a 20yo Hitachi 7.2v cordless drill and a dremel copy. I can get by without the dremel but it does make some bits easier.
55+mph
I just got back from the pond and managed a few passes.
I got 90.8km/h which is clear of 55mph
I did not have a clear enough straight to let it wind out fully. I believe there is more from this setup alone.
New tricks I have to blow 100km/h
Narrow pads on the existing sponsons
New SAW sponsons
A 6XL
It is a bit early for a beer but Dad will be round this afternoon and we will have one then.See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with woodComment

60mph
4 out of 5 runs this morning were near at and over 60.
The nose was set down a little for these trials and I stuck to the 637.
I have a degree of AoA up left and a 640 wheel to go.
I will see if I can get my 100kmh without going to the 640.
I can't even have a beer as I have night shift tonight.See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with woodComment

Matt Stil no vid
Craig Always keen to help.
You have twice the boat there that I have. This is a modified copy of the XS3.
No kits, no plans, not now and possibly not ever.
I build one offs and then modify, adjust, cut, glue and try to improve my designs.
It is fun for me and keeps me busy.See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with woodComment
