Oh it will smoke Paddy's xs3 if Simon made those ride pads narrower!

I do have to say outstanding work Simon. Andy I was also thinking the same thing about the pads. Well we will just have to see what comes of this work. Who knows this might be the right thing first go round? I wish you all the best Simon. I only wish I had a fraction of your ability. Thanks to all of you for the kind words so far. It has not seen the water yet.
That will be a test of any build skills
I built it with these sponsons as that is what the original X3 has. I will run it with these and see what happens.
I know that I will have to make a set of SAW sponsons to get the best speed out out of this tub.
Building is easy..........designing is hard !!
I want to get 60mph or 100km/h as is.
From there I will work on it.
I have a lot of wood and a lot of time.See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with woodComment

Looking great Simon! A quick question, is the tub centered between the sponsons or off to one side? And if so, by how much? Does the original H&M X3 have the tub centered? Also, what about the strut position, is it centered?
Just curious

Ben, at the moment this hull is symetrical, and the drive line is straight down the centre line. I will run it as is and trim it with CoB CoG adjustments and I can also alter the AoA of the tub or sponsons independantly.
This build is only intended to get me to 60mph or 100kmh. When I get there I will start investigating SAW sponson design and off set drivelines and asymetrical sponson setups. I know Chris Harris does something along these lines and I will get in his ear about all that when the time comes.
I have the smoke controler water cooled now and all I need to do now is complete the wiring ,make a new tail shaft with a front retaining collar (save the shaft if I blow a wire) sort a few test props and all is ready to go.
It should hit the water next week......if the weather is okSee it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with woodComment

Simon, sounds good. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity! I'm definitely interested in the information you gather regarding offsets. I have yet to see it explained in detail with formulas etc.
You know, one of these days you'll have to come up with a list of props you want and let one of us in the states put together a package for you. Then you can have some real fun testing. Plus, the fish won't stand a chanceLOL

Ben. I will begin my research on asymetrical riggers anyway.
I will run this one as is even though it now appears that balsa and hardwood may not be the best construction method despite some of my extensive and at times destructive (on the bench during the design )testing.
As for props, I have to make a best guess at which will be the go as I can not afford to fill a box with metal props and test one after the other to find a good one.
I'll kick off with a few carbon props and then go for a 640 metal.
If the boat is still alive I will push on from there.
We will all have to wait until the crap weather that is now here moves on.See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with woodComment

You can't beat that! Andy gets his eye candy in the pictures and you get a box of props! Win=WinIMPBA: 7-Time FE World Record Holder "Don't think outside the box. Rather, refuse to admit that the box exists in the first place!"

Hi Simon, if you come to one of the MMPBC club days there are a few people like myself who can lend you props to try so you can find the right one!Comment

Andy As I said last night the my keyboard shrunk, so typing was tricky. Address now sent. BIG thanks man.
Ben You are right, this is a cracker deal.
Matt I'll get down there one day, we will see what these wheels of Andy's do first. I'll do some shake down runs at the Chelsea pond or Pupuke Quarry.
As you know the weather here is not too flash so it will be mid next week before I get anything on the water.See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with woodComment

Hi Simon
Thats cool, when you are ready. I got a few good rigger and hydro props that would probably suit your setup
Yeah the weather is pretty naff at the moment, might be good for scale offshore!!but not hydros or riggers.
Good boat building weather!!Comment

At long last a performance and setup report.
I have had this hull in the water a few times now and it is spectacular.
Setup
Sponson AoA, 5 deg
Tub AoA, 2 deg with the strut at 17mm down and neutral.
Feigao 7XL 2370 kv enclosed in a carbon water jacket
Flightpower 4900mAh 4S lipo
Mystery 200A Esc with water cooling on the heatsink.
.062 wire drive
M440, X637 and X642 props.
Cg at 150mm rear of sponson 25% of afterplane.
No blowovers yet.
By "eye" it is doing an honest 80km/h 50mph.
The M440 has wicked acceleration but not the top speed.
The 637 is the best all rounder
The 642 gets things hot fast.
There is some vid coming soon........ I hope.See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with woodComment
