The only problem I see with CF on the transom is the pressure and strength required to bolt the fasteners and IMO plywood is better and will provide also more strength to the transom..no flexing, we hope
Hi Douggi
the CF i used for the transom and rails is 3mm Cf plate made with prepeg cf matting that is vacuumed and cooked in an autoclave this process makes it so hard that you can't cut it with a normal hacksaw it is then glued with HPR5 glue we use this glue to join CF mast shells together
so i guess if we are talking about how flexible or how strong it is i know witch way i would go M8
Cheers Adrian
Adrian, "I will say no more" as you Kiwis know a bit about building boats and my knowledge of CF is related to motor racing. I was of the belief it could not take a sharp side movement without shattering.
Let say it this way : If I was in the same position as Adrian I would NOT consider the ply .
Adrian : I don't know of ANY European using thrustbearings on motors.
I always am surprised that almost every American/Canadian/Australian boatpilot uses
thrustbearings ! We never use them.
IMO a thrustbearing is EXTRA friction ( as long as the rest of the setup is used/installed correctly )

Gerwin, that will upset the applecart and Gerwin's last response was to a message, I deleleted due to bad spelling. The context was the same and Gerwin I loved the reply , If you still have access to my deletion post it
Douggie said that my opinion about thrustbearings will start an
intercontinental-war, haha.
There are more funny differences between your boats and our (European) boats :
* you guys put rails in FE boats, we don't
* you guys use S-bends pretty often, we try to avoid them
* we always try to use direct-drive, you guys "often" use "gears/pinions"

Gerwin, S bends are a no no. Rails are OK based on the power plant and setup for the electronics. Most guys are now using direct drive.
Yeah, please back on topic !
The beautiful chapparal deserves it...
BTW : Adrian, the cayman in the movie is running 2x !!! 32 cells.
that's why it behaves so nice. There also is a movie with 1x32 cells, same boat, but then it behaves completely different, due to the lack of weight.
Wow lots of good questions and reply s here that's all good i think the thrust bearing idea is gone out the door now
in my opinion the guys in Europe have done so much FE stuff that we have to really listen to them i guess that's wy i ended up using their motor & ESC no disrespect to my American friends
Gerwin and Duggie what size prop should i run on this setup
