Jeff,
I am in the process of building one. I will be running it in our N2 class in the MMEU Club. Our rule have a few limitations to keep costs down, but I think it will still work. Here is what I am planning...
Hacker 8S
2s1P 5000 mah or 2s2p 7400 mah (2 3700 packs)
Castle Hydra 240
????? on the prop
Fullers super strut
.130 cable
Speed Master rudder assembly
Aquacraft turn fin
Hitec 225mg
I will try and snap some pics
finished painting on Monday. I am going to start putting it back together soon!!!!Comment

I missed this the first go round, have you found the leak?
If not, ( I know you are a sharp guy, but I'll share this with you anyway)
Disconnect both water lines inside the hull and put a plug in the one that goes out. Remove the water line that goes to the rudder and replace it with a piece of tubing about 12" long. (unless you don't mind getting your nose wet) lol
With the shaft removed tape up the hull and put about 5" of water in the bathtub.
Put a finger over the hole in the strut and submerge the hull upside down in the bathtub. Pressurize the hull blowing through the tubing. Becareful, you can blow the hatch off of the boat. I was suprised.
If there is a leak in the hull/deck joint you will find it. I have found a couple in the course of building a bunch of these. They were both at the transom near the corners.
Another thing, the heat shrink tubing between the stuffing tube and strut must be hit with some CA on the leading edge, or it will allow water to be pushed up the stuffing tube.
I hope this helps,

Worst case I have some decals from Phil that he gave me with my spare cowling order... I am not one much for artistic type stuff. I do much better with a T-square, hole templates, 45 degree triangle, and a 30-60 degree triangle. Catch my drift?Comment

Here is some pictures of my set up options. I will be testing this setup using 2S1P tonight. I didn't have time to solder up batts and a parellel connector last night...
My Vac-U-Pickle is 4 lbs 4.5 oz with a 2S1P (flightpower 5000) setup
2S2P is 4 lbs 10 oz with 2x flightpower 3700's
Both are RTR minus hatch tapeLast edited by longballlumber; 04-15-2009, 08:32 AM.Comment

Ok Pickle owners
Got a chance to run last night for the first time, Hacker 8S (club rules), 2S1P 5000 pack, Hydra 240, and CG set to your recommendation.
#1 – I ran with a “bag” X435 – I really liked how the boat handled it turned awesome. However the boats seem to drag the transom and the nose seemed a little high. With that being said, the boat didn’t act like it was going to blow off. (Ultimately, I liked this set up best at the end of the day)
Temps:
Motor = below 80 degrees
Controller = below 80 degrees
Batteries = below 100degrees
#2 – I ran a “bag” X632 – there wasn’t a visible difference in speed, it seem to load up in the turns more. Basically I didn’t like the way it “drove”. I still think the transom was riding low and the front was too high. Temps were the same as above.
#3 – ran a modified M435/3 (think they said diameter reduced and back-cut) – again I didn’t see a visible difference in the speed, but is still turned really well. I still think the transom was riding low and the front was too high. The temps were as follows:
Motor = around 85 degrees
Controller = below 80 degrees
Batteries = below 110 degrees
#4 was very short run with a bag Y535 (aluminum) – it acted much like the X632 and I didn’t like it. It had the same transom condition and nose condition. Temp were no better or worse than above.
On all of the runs, one thing I did notice is; the rooster tail was very flat and it wasn’t shooting water very high in the air. I always thought that was a good sign that the boat strut depth was in a good position to create a lot of thrust. I believe the strut is level and set to the current recommendation for the Pickle Hull. I will confirm that statement tonight.
What kind of recommendations doe anyone have to change the way the boat rides but not compromise speed and handling????Comment

It sounds like you need to drop the strut a bit, or put 1 degree of down in it. Maybe a combination of both.
Make one SMALL adjustment at a time until you make her happy.
Good luck,
