    Hydromites, yes two!

I decided in the fall I was going to build two Hydromites over the winter. I built one years back freehand. it turned out good but it never was finished. So here I am...

This time around I found out about Lazer Works that has "short kits" of the hydromite. Basically the woods precut except the larger sheets of square balsa/ply. Eddy got me my order in record time. http://lazer-works.com/list.html and its under $22 for the kit, well worth the $.

The power source is the same as Dr Jets small stuff. The 3000 KV small outrunner and the 30A Mystery ESC. I dont have a battery pack or rx picked out yet...

    Heres some build pics:

This is the wood thats been laser cut.

Wood trimmed and sanded smooth on the edges:

The start of the skinning. Beware you need 1 right and 1 left!!!!

Next step, the small sponson former:

Small size issue. The slots not big enough for the thickness of the material. You need to sand towards the center. I used a needle file and was done quickly.

    Assembled:
42" Osprey, 32" Pursuit, 26" Bling Rocket (rescue), Blizzard Rigger, JAE 21FE rigger, Hobby King rigger (RIP)

    Both frames:

I need to work on the exact position on where to drill/run this motor mount:

Hardware... I started off making my own but thought the hell with it. I want these boats to look NICE. So I shucked out a mere $34+ shipping per harware set. Including rudder, strut, flex shaft and all drive components EXCEPT coupler:

I purchased the hardware from "Head of the River" guy on E Bay. He seems decent but he got my order wrong. I was supposed to get one red and one purple hardware set. Instead all silver... Its not a major problem just more of a disappointment. However he did ship very fast!

    More pictures to come.

Just search around for Hydromites. The plans have been available for a number of years now. Also from what Ive seen the "mini cat racing" & "tenshock" hull is a direct rip off/plug fiberglass hull of the hydromite...

I just noticed about a mont ago "head of the river" guy on E Bay has a glass hull thats appears to be the same as the Hydromite but isnt the "tenshock" plug...

Can you link me to one of the hardware auctions? I searched through the guys stuff, but couldn't find them.

That strut looks kinda short. Will it get your wire drive deep enough into the water?

I was considering using it on a tunnel, but I don't think I would get enough prop in the water

Well its been a bit and I havent done much, so I put in some time tonight.

I cant get 3/32 x 1/4 Balsa at any of the two hobby shops here. So I ended up with 3/32 x 3/8. I bought the Masterscrew Blasa Stripper tonight, whole $7. I got my wood ripped down no issue. Worked pretty well I might add!

I worked with the Non Trip shear former. This is another piece Lazer works used the wrong material on. They used 3/32" for the long runner portion of it- was to be 1/16. No biggie, just filed the slots out a bit.

I used my square to make sure the two pieces were perpendicular. Then made sure it was flat to the bottom board.

                    Hull #1

                    Hull #2 wasnt touched tonight.

                      Does tower carry that stripper?

                      nvm, answered my own question.

                      Looking good.

Im not sure. AT first I didnt want to pay the hobby store price. Looked on E bay place wants $15 for it AND shipping... More than twice the price of the store...

I think it will be a handy tool to have. I now have a small stockpile of Balsa.

After I get these two done I might build two more behind them. These two are for my Dad & I. Might build two more one for my Uncle and another for anyone else wanting to race. Cant say I know anyone else with the patience to assemble a hull let alone build one :)

I did find it at tower for $7. I already had some stuff in my cart so I just added it, didn't raise my shipping price any.

We'll see how well it works for me.

Once you start attaching hardware, take more pics if you can. I ordered two of hardware off ebay and have a set of R2 hobbies hardware on the way so I'm interesting in how you will be using your hardware.

I guess Im a little lost on "how I will be using the hardware"?

                            Not sure what you mean.

Unless someone has a better suggestion I will be mounting it up as shown on the Hydromite plans, providing it will fit. Should, hardware is small enough.
