Tony.
When I had the SV27 package in mine I tried a 445 & a 645. Seemed to have a lot of prop walk & was very unstable in the corners.
With the 8XL motor in it now the biggest I run is a 642. The 640 is the one I run most of the time though. Good speed, good handling & good temps.
Never tried a 445 on the 8XL. I'll have to replace the bearings first though, they're sounding a bit rough.
Surely someone else has tried a 445 or 645 in this boat.
Cheers.
Paul.See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

Which ESC are you running with the 8XL?Comment

Actually my etti is only 125 amps but is good with BEC...special made unit.
a 445 might be perfect...not sure yet but I will play with all of them.
I usually am just looking a 4-5 minute play run...not racing...lots of speed in the straights is what I like.
Because of that hull I feel staying a bit smaller on the 8Xl is going to be key to maintain good cornering without torque problems or chine walking.
We will see. I just need to finish it up. Certainly a great looking cat but I would consider filling the nose with some foam...I hear they crack open when doing an end - to - end dive. I plan to just do some spray in foam a little at a time until I feel it is enough with expansion. It also sticks the top and bottom together where chunk foam does not.Comment

Finally , I can get a little progress on this thing. I got my hardware from OSE today I will have to shim it off of the transom to give the steering arms a little extra room. Thats a piece of carbon fiber in there now but that one is going to be moved into the inside of the transom for support and i'll cut a new one a little nicer for the shim. I see i'm not the only one having trouble due to the quality of this hull the steering rams will have to be angled and scribed on the mounting side to sit flat and not bind up becaus of the transom not having a flat mounting surface but I love the look of them so whatever it takes they are going on there. Here is a few pics with every thing sized up and taped on for measuringComment

being no expert with resins i just use a laminating epoxy (i think) thats used if your doing multiple layer, its a little sticky for awhile after it dries but after i finish doing motor/servo mounts i use some carnauba wax, gets rid of the stickyComment
