Best Boca Bearings Recommendations for Drives? For High RPM... (SAW)

Hey guys,

So I've been browsing around the Boca bearing site and came across some good bearing options for the replacement of the bushings on my Click Drives... the ABEC 5 and 7 bearings seem to be kind of up there in price though.

What do you guys think of these? They are the orange sealed ones, rated to 70k packed in grease and 83k for oil packed.

I've come across ones that are "Ultra sealed". Would those be better? I think they only come in ABEC3.

What do you guys recommend... Are these high priced bearings even worth it at all ?

Gill, do you think there's a big difference between the ABEC 1, 3, 5 and 7 bearings if they're rated at 70-80k rpm ?

Grease packed are the ones I should get right though right... to protect against water and all? The oil packed ones seem like they are higher performance overall though.

Yes there is a big difference ..less internal drag....so stick to ABEC 7 and both gresead or oiled will fit your needs...my personal preference is the oiled ones I have on my motors too.

Do the oiled ones perform better for you? Do the oiled ones hold up to water, etc in the drives ok? The Boca site makes it seem like the water will get in there easily with the rubber seals and oil packed bearings...

I'm not sure the difference in performance between these bearings but considering that 70k is well over the revs of your motors I would choose the greased ones to keep water away.

Ahhh, well... my motor is 1950/5 LMT on 6s. So 70k would probably be around the unloaded rpm though. (its a twin).

Btw, do you have much experience with wire drives?

I have 2x drive shafts with 2.36mm (.093) wire for the cat but there may be a bend that I would have to make to mount my CF motor mounts.
Would a bend be a GOOD thing for less vibration, or should I make sure it's as small as possible?

As I still want my click drives to be slightly adjustable negative or positive...

I'm thinking to maybe drill holes in the mounts to make it adjustable but I think the wire might be flexible enough since the wire is at least 180mm long without the shaft.

What do you say? :)

I believe the least amount of bend in a wire drive is best dmitry.

My experience with wiredrive was with a .12 nitro rigger with great results..yes a slight bend is a MUST for this set up .Personally with your motors I would stick to flexshafts as with a wiredrive motors usually are mounted in front of the boat and I don't know howfar away they will be in your cat to have the right bend.

What do you guys suggest I do with the stuffing tube with such a bend like this? It's suggested to use a straight 4-5mm stuffing tube with teflon...

(example hpr 135 with 3mm wire)

Dmitry with straight stuffing box you will have a lot of vibration(harmonics)..I would keep it like it is...seems good.

That picture above is not mine, but an example of what it would be like... What kind of stuffing tube do you think that person is using in the picture? Looks like some sort of flexible tube like a dremel flex cable...
