I went ahead and cut away the extra plastic around the ESC so the water cooling tubes will slip on much better. I also went ahead and sprayed the MG Silicon over the ESC just for a little more protection, so I should be good to go with that.

Next step is to start the soldering of the motor leads together and then decide about the receiver location. I can either add more wire from the ESC lead to allow for the receiver to reach the back of the boat or just move it closer to the front. I do think I’d rather have it in the back, sadly the wires aren’t long enough so I’ll have to add a little to get it back there.

My next problem is trying to decide what to do with the motor and drive shaft. When I push the drive shaft all the way into the boat it goes a bit far in for the NEU motor. I got a thrust bearing that I’d like to have between the motor and the drive shaft coupler, but the way it sits now, the drive shaft on the motor is too long. Is this normal? Do I need to shave it down so the thrust bearing and coupler get closer or am I missing something?

Thanks again for all your help!

just make sure that your esc signal wire is nowhere near the motor wires. And the battery wires. You might also want to twist it up to decrease EMI (RFI).

I know Jollysport comes with hdwe. Did it come with the wire drive? I wld shorten the wire drive before I shortened the motor shaft. At some point you may want to use the motor in another application that may require standard length. . My 02.

just pull out the wire snippers and give it a good squeeze. Don't mess with the motor.

Now if it just ‘snip’ off the drive shaft vs. the motor shaft won’t a thrust bearing be pointless?

The motor will only be used in this boat so either way I’m cool with cutting it, my main worry was that if I don’t cut the drive shaft on the motor there’d be no “Thrust Bearing”. Currently when I put the coupler on the motor I have about ½” of play so I thought it would be better to cut it and allow the trust bearing to do its job, vs. cutting the drive shaft.

I’ll take some pictures tonight and get them up so it’s a little easier to see (damn if I forgot to take a picture while it was on).

Thanks for advice and guidance, I know I say it all the time, but so nice to have such a good group of people to get solid advice.

the thrust bearing goes between the coupler and the motor. You will still have room for that. And it'll just be easier to snip the shaft.

Neu motor blot holes will not line up with the holes you have in the mount that is in your boat now.
you will have to elongate the holes in the mount to match up to the mount holes in your motor.

what he is saying is the motor shaft bottoms out in the coupler before the coupler even contacts the thrust bearing...

he is going to have to cut the motor shaft or run 2 thrust bearings ...

i would cut the motor shaft... if he runs the motor in another boat he can set the boat up for the motor...

Oh, sorry. I didn't read his post. My bad.

You could put a few washers between the thrust bearing and the motor.

                      its cool..lol

yup you could.... but it only takes a second to cut the shaft with a dremel and a cut off wheel. just tape up the motor so no trash gets in it...

that looks like a spendy project, my wife would have me drawn and quartered, How much are they getting for that 180 esc? that thing looks nasty (not in a bad way)

I've cut the shaft down on 2 of my Neus, it's no big deal. I also found on my newest Neu that the front bearing hole was very large, and the thrust bearing went into the hole and pressed against the front motor bearing - not ideal. So I made a thin aluminium plate that goes between the motor and mount and has a 6mm hole in it for the shaft. The thrust bearing presses against the plate, rather than the motor. Works well.

Is a thrust bearing even needed on this hull or set up? I have more then a few runs on my jolly with no problem.....
