I designed it as a pusher but you could mount the motor forward just as easy. I thought about the, because them the prop wash would blow over the motor, supercharging the cooling. heat should not be an issue though. If I front mounted it I would need to redesign the rudder.
here is the finished hull with its first coat of cherry red.
I left the extra lite ply on the front to simulate the weed pusher like some of the real boats have.Attached FilesLast edited by Avanti; 08-09-2008, 11:43 PM.The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.Comment

The third coat of cherry went on tonight. I have two little spots to fillet in the morning and then on to rigging. I have everything on hand except mounting bolts for the motor, so a water test is not out of the question for tomorrow either. The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. here is a pic with the rudder on. for some reason the paint is still tacky, so rigging might have to wait a bit longer than this morning.
man I can't wait to run this thing, I already want to build a bigger one after seeing this video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ll7UR9DZZMAttached FilesLast edited by Avanti; 08-10-2008, 09:27 AM.The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. Jack Hix, one of the SLOBS, is into micro aircraft as well. Yesterday, he showed up with a 2-gram (10 mm diameter) outrunner. We talked about making a really small hydro out of it, but where would you find a small enough prop?
This is the solution!! I can just see 6" long airboats racing in an inflatable above-ground pool. Use ping-pong balls for turn bouys.
Anybody remember the Slip-N-Slide? You could use that for SAW runs.A nation of sheep breeds a government of wolvesComment

you could fan drive a three point hydro hull no problem. the sky is the limit for this application. I can't wait to see what you do next doc, you are the micro god.The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.Comment

here is a pic of the rudder linkage and mounted servo.
off to the LHS to get motor mount bolts. then charge the battery and she will be ready to run.Attached FilesThe Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.Comment

float test went fine. I just got back from the LHS. I found out the I have a standard prop, so I will need to face the motor forward for now, as they did not have a pusher.
the battery is charging now I will have actin pics later today hopefully it runs good. The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.Comment

well my fillet job needs work, the boat has leaks.
she ran pretty good. I need to tweak the set up though as it wants to carry the stern (good thing I left the grass pusher on the boat). There is no shortage of power that's for sure you will see in the video I could hardly open it up. here is a static pic in the pond. the video is loading now.
