    Over clocking the old T29 project

    I'm starting out with the heavy duty version of Aeromarines T29. Going with a 1515 Castle and building a mineral oil bath for the T180 . My goal for this boat is for it to eventually be handed over to my oldest son who is 6 right now. Who knows maybe we will go to a few boat races ! so to start off in needs to handle the heat of Bakersfield , CA and the smaller tight ponds that like to heat things up. Will be using speedmaster strut and rudder, not sure on the trim tabs and turn fins yet because I would really like to run the boat without them first.

    Look forward to showing you all in time with updates on the oil bath experiment . This is going to be a slow build with new build idea's going into use. Can't wait to try this thing out allready ! lol

    Worked on the esc inclossure tonight. I used JB weld to seal the tubing and to take away the tubings conductivity. JB weld is also a good conductor of heat. Gooped a little weld on the caps to hold them in place while the fluid hits them, the factory had stuff holding them but I must had busted that loose some how.

      In the event the esc turns into a M-180 I have added a vent port to help lower combustion pressure rates for safety and to minimize casualties .

            Basically the super cooler is done . I will fill it and Velcro it in later in the build.

              Whats the purpose of an oil bath? i take it the oil cools it but is it really worth all the trouble? does it make that much difference? nice work btw

                  Excellent question ! Mainly the hot weather in my area is the biggest reason, it's 107F today. Also as temps climb in your electrics the amps go up. The idea is to keep temps in check at the heat source instead of waiting for heat to be conducted at the heat sink if that makes sence. The boat will have a fairly hot 4s setup so this inclosure should help the esc stay chilled down for the 10,000 mah runs in the summer time. The extra work is just a opportunity to be creative for me and we will see if it's really worth the trouble after a give it a go.

                    good deal. well looks like a good plan, hopefully it serves its purpose!

                      I agree ! They handle really well and are kind of the little big blocks of FE mono's.

                        The oil bath is an interesting idea. Oil is a far better conductor of heat - an order of magnitude better than water - and with a large enough volume like the OP is using it may work very well to keep ESC temps down due to its mass. I'm not sure the retention time if the water is enough to remove much heat but overall the idea has merit. Be aware that the thermal conductivity of any epoxy is far less than that of brass or aluminum tubing, best to keep the tubing free of an epoxy coating.

                        The Titan 29 is not the best hull for top speed, particularly in race water, they have a LOT of lift and like to fly over 45-50 mph. But it is a fun boat, we used to run them on 18 (or 24) round cells and they were good racers. IMO today they are best for 4S limited power, but they certainly can use a bit more power.

                          I struggled with not coating the rods but the the controller circuitry hovers just a few millimeters above so I did the thin coating JIC.

                          I really like there lift wich makes them a good boat for the added weight of the bath. 45-50 mph is the range I'm looking to get. I figured a 440x 2 blade should do.

                            This is where I'm at in choosing a dual or single pick up rudder. I was thinking a dual but this hull handles fine with a .21 rudder. The aluminum tubing in the enclosure is 3/16 , so it will flow really well. I'm leaning toward the .21 rudder and run a long tube from the transom up to the front of the enclosure then to the motor. I do believe the water lines in the enclosure will only marginally cool things in real time but I wanted to install them so I can pre-cool the oil or cool the oil back down by plumbing into the system with a ice water filled weed sprayer or something . I am thinking the .21 speedmaster is going to be my choice.

                              Looks like this boat is getting the new Speedmaster 4.25" dual pick up rudder, just bought the first one !
