Especially chicks from that area of Flint! Maybe I can bring them with and do a make-shift flag pole to claim my pit area (clean of course)

You guys are too funny! LOL

Are there any cash prizes for SAW competitions? Some of the boats capable of setting and breaking existing records cost big bucks! The motors and ESCs for this build alone is $2K+ I'm guessing. Or is it just for bragging rights?

NO, both IMPBA and NAMBA are amateur racing associations and forbid "cash prizes" to maintain their amateur status. As I understand it, the main reason is for insurance. Coverage is dependent on the status and professional coverage is significantly more expensive.

If you're say sponsored, what status would you fall under? Am or Pro? Anyone sponsored in this hobby for building large FE boats?

There are a few records at least in the IMPBA that are soft and can be taken for well under a grand. What's expensive is a 250 mile trip and two nights in a hotel hoping for a half hour of smooth water. SAW's is more about determination and self accomplishment. I wouldn't call it bragging rights. I'm proud of the records I held but know there a bunch of guys that could do the same or better if they put the effort into it. A pat on the back from peers you admire, a high that lasts the trip home and piece of paper are all most of get out of it. But the knowledge and friendships gained is priceless. You'll learn allot attending a SAW's event. Many times you'll get answers to questions that would result in the sound of crickets if you asked them online.

As for sponsors, that's a slippery slope. I'm not even going to attempt to go there.

Forgot to update this thread. I fell short of my goal. The boat has a lot of potential but is very sketchy over 90 mph. She needs glass to be able to run on full tilt. At the SAW event I ran in conditions I really shouldn't be running in at those speeds. Spent most of the first day making adjustments. Early morning of day 2 I made a couple good passes at partial throttle and decided to go for it. About 3/4 down the straight, she did a quick hop and stuffed....stuck in the clay bottom for a couple seconds.....then shot back up. Damage wasn't too bad and is repairable, but enough to send me home for the day. I'll give it a shot again at the spring event.

Damage was inside and on the bottom where part of the motor mount broke free.

Wow Joel, That clay didn't do it any good. Looks like you stuffed it into the bank, same result.. Now it's got some character.

Knowing that pond it probably smells less than desirable.

i thought at first it was part of the paint scheme. I'm sure in person it looks "crappy" but in the pics not knowing its mud, it looks cool.
