Some more progress - the holes in the tunnel worked great. I'm going to mount the ESC with a velcro strap to make the batteries easier to change. I was going to mount the batteries on some carbon trays, but its going to be tight so I think I'm going to stick with the velcro and pool noodles as suggested. I made the servo and engine mount plates out of some aluminum - must have been too hard as I've been through (4) 6-32 taps in this project! (tried various oils including 3in1, stihl bar oil and even lard (tip an old timer gave me).

Phil has helped me a bunch!

      Nice looking build.
If you want twin pickups, why not use a twin pickup rudder. Steve sells them.
This SpeedMaster rudder assembly is made for large nitro and electric hulls 38" or larger. High quality aluminum, CNC cut to tight tolerances.

      From your first post.
I think a 1527/1y on 6s is a good choice for a hull this size.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

Hi guys, well we finally took the SP40 to the lake for the maiden, and it ran great! Carved the corners and held a line in some of the choppy water. A testament to Phil's design.

Thanks to everybody for the power combo suggestions - I started with the X445 prop and we were seeing speeds in the mid 40s (estimate). Everything came back ice cold, and given that it was still accelerating when I ran out of lake, I think there is a lot more speed in her with some larger props (I have a 447 and 450 coming from OSE). I have a water leak (I think its from the connection of the water lines to the outlets - the only ones I didn't zip tie) and even with a good bit of water in the nose, she got up on a plane quickly. I have the batteries as far forward as possible (CG about 1" forward of the sponson), I'm going to gradually experiment by moving them back. Once the water leak it figured out, I'm going to get the vinyl decals on and get some video to post.

This was my 6 year olds birthday present, and he is on cloud 9. He's pretty good with his shortcourse truck on a track, and he took to the boat quickly.
