    CF Popeye Hydro Build

Received my Popeye hydro from Ampeaterracing last week. This is my second boat build, so I am hoping to yield a higher quality build this time. It's not going to be a super quick build so just bare with me as I post updates. I have everything I need besides my turn fin at this point. Going to be running the typical 1515 with seaking180, (I might go with a swordfish 220 not sure yet), airtronics receiver and servo, and speedmaster rear hardware.

I got my main inlay done today. Using west systems 105 and 209. I definently did a better inlay job this time using west systems, and KBB's tutorial.

It kinda bothers me that I can see light through the sides of the hull, and the sponsons. Only question I have is should I put a layer down the sides of the hull, and sponsons as well? I'd appreciate some opinions.

    On to some pics

Hey Slo,like that honey comb inlay. I know tlandauer put strips of fg cloth down both sides of hull and sponsons on his Popeye.

I think that a lot of peoples Popeyes' (mine included) crack along the inboard joins from the points of the sponsons to the tub. That's the ordinary glass ones. But it might be different with the carbon hulls. Still, a bit of tape on the inside of that seam might be wise.

I'll be watching this build with interest.

        All the best.
        Paul.

I see where kintec racing has it as a ARTR setup.

I know. That doesn't look quite nice enough to me (innards)...especially for the price. I'd rather build my own.

Got some stuff done this week. I got the sides of the hull, sponsons, and transom covered in cf, hatch bolts installed, and the rear hardware mounted. Just in case anyone was wondering how I'm doing the linkage boot, I attached an out of hull pic.

Looks very nice Slo. Like those smaller thumb screws. You have the Fastenal part number for those? I'm going to copy your set up on linkage boot when I build new Popeye that set up looks good. That Speedmaster hardware looks sweet. Really like that rudder assembly. Where did you get it? Also where did you get that motor mount? Thx Jeff

Thanks Jeff! The new color scheme on the popeye is very eye catching. I'm sure you'll be happy with it....

The build is looking fantastic, the honeycomb inlay really suits the boat. I really like how the hatch bolt nuts are under the hatch lip and not sticking up through as you see on most builds. Very neat and clean, keep up the good work!

Thanks Fella! Yes I really like how the weld nuts came out, having that recessed look.

                            Necro update

Hey guys I've finally got back around to finishing my build here. Kinda crazy its been collecting dust for like 2 years. Not sure if anyone is interested in this hydro anymore, but I think it'll be a fun sport runner for me. Got some stuff done thanks to coming back here and brushing up on all the wealth of information that is here on OSE. Thanks guys!

Anyway here she is, not all the way finished. Still have to secure the motor mount and battery tray and she'll be pretty much done. I just ordered a 4s 5000 from revo so I'm pretty pumped about getting it done before the lipo comes in. Can't wait to run it.
