Great looking build. Looks really roomy inside. I am curious about the sponsons on the boat. Do they epoxy straight onto the sides? What do you use to locate them onto the tub? I noticed they are separate "builds" on a lot of the wood hydros. I am likely missing the obvious and would appreciate you helping me understand it. Thanks.
I'm in the same boat Darin, nearly done skinning a Whip 40 then the 2 smaller boats. Whips are so much more work to build it seems.
Ray,
All wood boats take a lot of work, Whip, ML Boatworks or scratch. The glass boats are a lot easier, but you don't get the same satisfaction of accomplishment. Oh, and there's the fact that the wood boats tend to perform better.
I like it, Ray... I have this hull as well... as well as the 26.5" version... I haven't started either yet, but the time is nearing...
Thanks Darin,
Was going to go a little more scale on it, but since it will be a race boat, I'd just end up tearing off the canards in the first flip. The only issue with eliminating the "Eliminator" style sponson design is the loss of the third locating pin for the sponson. I don't think it will be a problem.
Looking good Ray! Still haven't found the time build mine.
Hey Doug,
Thanks. Time is an issue. Paul in the land down under seems to put these kits together in a heartbeat. Seems to take me forever. I probably "Overthink" everything.
For those of you who are wondering about the "Eliminator" comments. The GP series hydros from ML Boatworks are loosely based on the U21 Eliminator hydro. See attached.
