The end result should be very cool and original. I look forward to seeing it. You only live once spending money on what you enjoy is important. Nice job on the cloth, I didn't realize it was your first time.
I am putting in a Tp4050 2395kv, swordfish pro 220, running on 4s to start. Working on it in between other things. I don't have the best running spots close by with smooth water. Lots of water though! Working on finding some good spots. I am hoping not to drive 30 minutes or more to run it. I will post once I get really rolling on it. Great little boat for the money. Paint is all prep work and patience. I remind myself every time I do it. I don't rush things like I used to though. Keep us posted

Are the paint types the same? Mixing polyurethane and enamel paints can do that. A good primer will seal it all up and let you put down your paint. A must if you don't know what's underneath. Probably obvious to you but just thought I would mention it. I have seen expensive paintjobs go bad and cheap ones turn out beautiful. A friend who is a painter did his car with rustoleum gloss black paint, he added a hardener to it and it looked like a big dollar job when it was done.

My new soldering iron arrived a day early. It is a 937D (generic soldering station) which has a digital temp readout, instant heat up, and was only $45 shipped. This is one of those things that my life was missing. I soldered the connectors onto my motor and ESC, but I think my ESC wires may be a tap long. No sweat, awesome iron! When the parts for the mount arrive, I'll make a second decision. Speaking of mounts, my custom mount turned out to be $46.95 shipped. The total for the mount (minus the M3 bolts) turned out to be $63.70. Ouch, but like you said, YOLO! I never thought I would ever use that.

I sanded down the blisters in the paint. I know it happened as a result of not following the book. And because the paint has a minimum thickness, it is now more difficult to paint than it was when it was bare. I couldn't avoid it after the mishap, but this last time could have been avoided. But again like you said, "Paint is all prep work and patience."

4050 2395kv on 4s...as a start. I really am looking forward to that build.

I've only used gloss white Rustoleum 2x Paint&Primer. Differing paint chemistry shouldn't be an issue. I plan on using Duplicolor for the color (shiny grey...) and clear. I WILL let the paint sit for a minimum of a week before I make the switch.

The new iron was even able to break my 5800mAh 6s packs. I'll be able to run much light now. The only downside is that I do not have 3s balance leads. I just hardwired them together with 10awg and some 6s balance leads I had. It will remain a 6s pack, just split into two. I have a wet layer of plasti dip on them now. Heat shrink will be here on Thursday.

I will be wrapping every wire (except the battery and motor wires) and all of the waterlines. The only issue is that I ordered 8mm for the waterlines which is actually too big.

Differing paint chemistry can be a major issue. Mainly you don't want to put lacquer over enamel. Good luck!

The batteries look like a pain in the butt! I like the different coloured braided sleeve. All I have is the black, got lucky and a discount industrial supply nearby got a bunch of different sizes in so I stocked up.

I was referring to just the initial white, but after you said this, I looked into it more. The Duplicolor is a lacquer. The Rustoleum Painter's Touch 2x gloss colors are enamel............................................ ............................

Should I just strip it all off?

That's bad news, I think your going to be sanding back down to primer, unless somebody knows of a chemical stripper to use. Some lacquers and enamels combinations are worse than others. A good idea is to spray the paint on the back of a plastic spoon to see reactions and gives you a good sense of what the colour will look like. Airbrush guys do it all the time. Good luck, wish I knew an easy answer.

While looking at the strippers, I found the same color grey I wanted in enamel. I think I'll just go ahead and embrace the enamel.

Sounds like good choice. I am curious what is available as a stripper that will work with fiberglass gel coat hull.

Probably your best choice no doubt. Go with it man

Here is the end result. I just couldn't get the lines to fill in. Plus there is a small blister above. I'm done with the spray can though. What I'll do is give it a slight sanding, then brush the paint on. I'll spray into a small cup or something. That will come way after the fact though. As far as I'm concerned, the white is (for the most part) finished. There are two small spots that would also benefit from a little brush and sand work. I guess I'll wait to Sunday before I start applying the grey.

Why are use choosing to brush the paint on versus spraying? It's not going to change how the paint reacts to what's under it. How did you strip it all down and what did you clean it with after? Looks like you have been hard at it

I didn't strip it. I only sanded the front end. As you can see in the pics, the paint has a "minimum" thickness. I figured that I can apply it thicker if I brush it on. A good thick coat on the line with a little sanding should make that line disappear. It would be more of a touch up. Spraying will just require me to clear out the garage again, and it gives more for me to sand later due to the over spray. The paint is a "paint & primer" so it is relatively thick. For prep, I give it a good wipe down with clean rags while blowing anything lose off with an air pump. I clean it with a small amount of mineral spirits if I got finger prints or any residue on the hull.

The acrylic parts will be here on Saturday. I already have the bolts. The brackets are...well...from China. I can't find any other source for them other than Goodluckbuy. I ordered on the 19th, but it still says processing. It is just regular mail though so it may not update further. I didn't really want to spend $25 for shipping on $20 worth of stuff, especially since these are only part of the mount expense.
