working over my mean machine ....

    Around 2010 - 2011 I picked up a new 29" aeromarine mean machine hull.
Here's what she looked like in the original gel coat. She sure was purdy ....

She was running a pro-boat 3630 (1800kv) w/ the 45A pro-boat ESC, and pushed a cf prop with 2 traxxas powercell NiMH packs in series with a tactic radio. Not bad for an entry level sportboat setup in a sweet hull ....

Well I ended up doing some tradin' with my pal Rick (l8rg8r) for it. Ricky had a couple gallons of plumb crazy purple paint burning a hole in his proverbial pocket , because mopar wasnt ready for paint yet, so he decided to paint a bunch of toys instead.

it don't look bad but if it would have been me I would have left it in the original gel coat. It looked damn nice & its a lot easier to see how she's reacting on the water. As you can see, I've already installed 10-32 hardware for the lid. The underside of the lid got a couple coats of spray on plasti-kote to seal it up after. Drilling all the holes in it...

since I T had to use real long studs in the rear the hatch, I decided to run 10-32 studs all the way around the perimeter of the lid. The pro-boat setup was pulled for another project boat. I kept the water cooled motor mount and dropped in a fresh AQ 3656 (2030kv) & since the 60a AQ ESC went up on smoke, it was replaced with a 60a turnigy marine because its a single 4s sportboat setup.

The motor / ESC connectors were upgraded to 5.5mm and I replaced the tactic Rx with an sr3001 pro Rx for my m11 radio. I also soldered up a 5.5mm to deans sonnector adapter to plug into my deans series connector. The ESC got 5.5!mm bullets too..

As you can see, the cells are 6000mah 28-45c 2s bulletpacks in series. I also have 5000mah 40c 2s gens ace & 2 thunderpower 3850mah 4s packs I can run in parallel. Now I need to build some battery trays. Industrial Velcro doesn't work well in this because of the stepped sponson's...

Curious placement of your water pickup to the motor. What speeds are you getting?

Yeah yeah, I know the paInts not so good but it was like this when I got the boat back from Ricky . I guess I had enough time on the water with this thing, because I broke the end off the 3/16 AQ flex shaft r right behind the coupler. I replaced it with a 3/16 pro_-boat flex.

The prop is a back cut m442 that I sharpened & balanced. I also replaced the rudder with a nice 4 1/8" swing away rudder. It hangs 2 5/16" below the sponsors, I hope its enough.

I also had an issue with the strut. When it was level with the sponson''s, it could only be raised 3/16 of an inch total which wasn't enough. I extended the slot in the strut with a ratail file down to the knifedge, another 3/16". now I have room to play with it .

With the original setup, it was a low to mid 40's boat. I've been reworking it for the last 3 days because its been rainy and nasty here. with the new changes I'd be happy with a mid 50 mile an hour boat. I didn't like the original location of the thru transom h20 bung. it was a real pain in the arse to get to, so I relocated it and used the original hole for my antenna mount. I didn't want to cool the motor, mount & ESC off a single rudder pick up,
so I put another pick up in the low step in the sponson so its always in the water on plane. I put dual h20 outlets on both sides of the hull ....

I think your cable broke because of the extra bend the flex makes as it goes from the stuffing tube to the flex collet. I noticed it in the first set of pictures. Aligning that better will stop shafts breaking and increase speed.

                      Hi Shawn . It's a back cut s&b'd m442. If I remember right, it's close to a detongued 447 ....

Alrighty; I just soldered up 5.5mm connectors on the input side of this 60A turnigy ESC, then made a 5.5mm to deans adapter on 10 awg leads. Now I can plug in my series adapter, or run my single 4s & 5s packs. I've got 2 Venom 5000mah 25c 5s2p packs i've been waiting to try out, hope this ESC handles 5s 25c alright. I know the AQ 60A ESC handles 5s alright. Anybody tried 5s on these esc's ?.....
