Good point. In it's current state, the opening is 8.7". It does not meet the 25% rule. 8.7/30 = 0.29.

The front rounded pc that attaches to the fuselage must at least be 8.7-(0.25*30) = 1.2". I probably would not have made it that long. I'm glad you brought it up. Thanks!

You know it's a LOT easier to build a whip if you wet heat and pre bend the pieces that have/ need curvature. It made my build Much, much easier.

Out of glue. Done for the day.

        Ray,

That's a great idea. My relatives built full sized boats and they used to soak the wood prior to installing the pcs. How exactly do you 'wet heat'? Thanks.

Usually I jut heat up the kettle full of water, put part(s) in boiling water in a bowl or pot and take out after a minute and form around a surface that has a smaller curve than needed since after it cools and dries out it reflexes back a bit.

I did other parts in a similar manner like the pic below. I did the parts you just glued.

I may be wrong but, I think a wood boat is stronger if the tension is removed from the bent/curved surface.

Your COG will be too far forward with that lipo, esc and motor location...boat will run wet. I would move the motor closer to stern (about 10"-11" from stern). Add a little weight later where needed...usually front lefthand sponson

The smaller Mighty Mini servo will be plenty.

Mount your rudder on lefhand side of stern. This will help boat track straiter and turn left better when needed.

Raise and widen your sponson ride pads about 1/8"

Paint the boat White and add Whiplash decals

When applying the sheating, no clamps or wet bending are needed if you use Medium CA and Kicker

Many ways to skin a hydro.

This is all I added to the bottom and inside of sponsons. I think Detox means a total of 1" not an extra inch.

I think what I added is adequate depending on the power used.

Yea i mean add 1/8" to raise and widen. Just like in rays pictures.

Just blend in the front of the piece to the natural shape of the sponson.

What is accomplished by building up the ride pads?

Thanks for the feedback. Nice suggestion on the color BTW. All I need is that skull head decal, and I should be all set! So, if I show up with a 'copy cat' Detox boat to the nationals, would ya be pi$$ed? lol!

Wow, that med CA and kicker idea with no clamps sounds like the way to go!

I think you are right about the stress relief. We do a similar thing at work with some of our parts. It's call annealing and it alleviates internal stresses (after the part is coldworked). I'm sure someone would argue that the stress in the wood is eventually relieved after several temp cycles/humidity changes...but who knows!

I Think it makes the boat ride higher and handles the chop better. It may also help vent air out but, I just did it because TRUCKPULL (Larry) told me it works better. I forgot exactly what he said.

Electric powered hulls are a little heavier. So doing this will help hull get on plane quicker and ride higher in water. Water hitting bottom of hull adds drag. Adding 1 degree stepped ride pads will also help make boat go faster if it is dialed in correctly. You can cut stepped pides using miter saw.

                              Nice pads, D! Wow.

I checked my sponsons for straightness, etc.. after installing the outer skin and I think Ray's tea kettle idea holds some merit. I see a small bit of twist in in my right sponson. It can be fixed, but up until now, it was straight as an arrow.

Oh....and a wonderful thing happened to me. It took me awhile to realize why my nose was running profusely for 2 days, then OK, then for 2 days, then OK, and then once again for 2 days!! Apparently I've develped an allergy to CA fumes!! Hard to believe, but after 30+ some odd years of using it, it built up in my lungs and now any additional exposure causes symptoms. Wonderful.

That was a good short story...well written also. Maybe a small fan will help keep fumes away.
