twin SV setups would be a good place to start

if you want cheaper you could go with 2 Ammo 2600 motors $35or so, and 2 ebay controllers.

I don't know how long the plastic u-joint will hold up with brushless power, you might want to see if there are metal ones available.
The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.

      brushless

I think you would find that a nice single brushless system would be more than enough power. Are you going to use the gears or go direct drive?

            sv 27

I think you would be alot happier that way with a sv27. When I started out I had a kyosho twinstorm and checkrd into putting a brushless into it and was told to get a sv27 and I'm glad I went that way in the end. I gave my twinstorm to my 7 yearold and got the sv. You can sell the villian for pretty good money to help purchase the new one or just keep it as dependable joe.

Gumby I think you should test drive a SV27 first !!! There is a big difference between the Villain and SV27 drive. The Villain drives more like a sports car, It turns right and left on a dime and hooks up right away while the SV27 is strictly an oval racer, It does not like to turn left due to prop torque.
The villain is a pretty good system and you do not need to go Brushless. My Villain has the prop kit and two Trinity Monster Maxx 19 Turn Wild motors.
Keep in mind that what ever you buy for your Villain (brushless parts) will be good for any other boat you build, Trust me once you build your first boat you will be addicted !!!

                  Now I have a Villain Question ???
I just went to Lipo batterys on this Villain, Am I good to go or do I need some kind of Lipo cut off ???

The Trinity Monster Maxx Motors have adjustable timing. Right now they are both set at 0 (zero) How would one go about adjusting the timing for better performance ???

The most recent issue of RC Boat Mag has a project on twin Villieon upgrade project ... interesting read but not for a first timer!

Plus the cost was huge. I suggest buying a Delta Force 29 or 33 and installing your own hardware etc. These hulls are a great bang for the buck. A typical low cost system would be $80 for the motor, $100 for the ESC, $150 for hardware, plus battery cost. Also a new radio if you have an AM system

The article also said the same performance could be achieved using a set of hot brushed motors for a lot less $$$

So blast your saying brushed motors can achieve the same speed as brushless in the villain but for alot less. If that is true i'm all over that and how can i find that article?

Gumby, the article used brushless., hence my comment and brushed or brushless motors will not give you the response, I presume you are looking for

Have you read the article ??? Or are you just blowing smoke ??? I have the article and in the Brushless Vellineon build conclusion was:
For the twin powered Villain, however, much of the performance gain seen here can be had using the octura props, a pair of hot brushed motors and the stock controller for a fraction of the cost.
