Anyway Kris now that we have all the timing gear to do SAW racing it's maybe time to get a Qld lockout on the records.

Be careful us "noobs" down south don't leave you in our wakes
We tend to enjoy being "experimental" because rules are made to be broken - as are records,
and today's technology is yesterday's steam engine.
BTW: My Great, Great, Great Grandfather is responsible for the steam engine.
They named the unit of power after him.
I carry on the family tradition.
      Gotta love frontiers.
      It's all good gentlemen.

        Dear Southern Noob.

        Welcome.
Today's technology is yesterday's workshop mess.... a few here have very messy workshops.

What's the best hull to start out with for 70-80kmh and will I need to do any reinforcing to the hull or transom?

That's one of those "How long is a piece of string?" questions Mulisha.
If it's your 1st, I suggest you choose a hull design/style/class that you like - maybe something that has been tried and tested before.
You can follow in other's footsteps, enjoy the build and advice along the way then go outside the box later.
Some things I've learned along the way are:
            1. Think carefully before you build.
            2. Do the math e.g. motor Kv rating and winding type X Volts = RPM. However RPM doesn't necessarily equate to "speed" per se.
            Consider other variables such as:
            Hull shape/size/type/materials.
Availability and the sustainable delivery of large amounts of electrical current.
Over-all weight and the distribution thereof - aka "cog".
            Prop pitch/diameter/design.
            Drive angle and height.
Hydrodynamics - displacement vs surface driven performance and handling.
Aerodynamics - blow-overs are inevitably expensive.
Straight line speed is all fine, but does it also corner controllably, predictably and stably at top speed?
            3. Use the best available components you can find (or manufacture them yourself if you have the skills).
            4. Ask lots of questions to those that have had success, or suffer the same mistakes they did along the learning curve.
            5. Always keep the bar fridge well stocked.
            6. Be creative. In the end, sit back and be proud of your works.

            Type of hull?
You're obviously interested in F1 style surface craft.
Down side is, there isn't a whole lot of room to work with these types of boats.
I would recommend going outboard (as all real F1s are) to free up internal workspace.
Maybe something in the 30" - 36" inch range and fibreglass - cheaper than carbon fibre or kevlar. Easier to work with too.
The rest is up to you...

Where will you use this toy?
Do you have expectations of 80kkmh++ with the first buy ?
Size and condition of water is a major consideration when sourcing hulls.

This will be my first tunnel hull. Only have a cat and deep V and they totally different to the tunnel hull so it might be better if I bought a second hand one with the hardware installed on it and maybe even the electrics for a first hull

What packs alreadyexist in your possession?
Build a new hull to use what power sources you already have.. cheaper !

That rcboatbitz tunnel is for 3S.
As an entry level toy it's probably the better option.

I like the look of the boatbitz just the not sure on the quality of the electrics and outboard leg. Doesn't have water cooling for motor.

you will need to see it on the inside but it would be a pretty good option I think. Start small and work your way up. Work wise it wouldnt be too bad depending what it looks like on the inside.

Ran my new F1 tonight at my local lake.
100% throttle for the first time on an Octura X450.
This thing sits on it's arse beautifully and corners on a knife at full tilt.
                                No retreat - no surrender!
Downside was the crappy Reactor 6S 5000mA 50C LiPo didn't help to realise the full potential.
Motor and ESC all running cool - LiPo was ready to have quadruplets.
Just ordered a 70C TP 5000mA 8G to hopefully alleviate the lack of oomph.
Leeching the data as I type.
Having fun dialling this mofo in.
