Gyrotron You are really flying with your build, I have so many projects going on rite now for the holidays, I will get more time on my build after the holidays. Slow and Steady wins the race. Let me know what ESC and batteries you plan to use. I am currently thinking of using 300 Swordfish with two 5000 6s in series. or maybe 5300.

      Hi zx11976r,

According to the experience I've gone so far with my build, determining the electronics locations and maneuverability of stuff inside the bull (sliding batteries, ESC location, etc.) you may need to modify the rails somehow. I see they are already glued to the hull I don’t know if the electronics box will really be beneficial or interfere later on. I hope my comment didn’t get to you too late. In terms of batteries I am planning on going with 8S2P setup or 4 X 4S packs (5000mah 4S 65~130C); two sets in serial and then I will connect those two sets in parallel. Each battery is 153 x 49 x 37mm or 6.02 x 1.92 x 1.46 in and ea weights 576g or 1lb 4.32oz

Hello all, just getting back to the build after the holidays finally ended. I am planning on using a 300 amp esc swordfish on 12s. I need some help picking out some of the next parts I plan to purchase. I have a 1/4" stinger , I am not sure if I should order a 1/4" cable with a 3/16" step down or keep it 1/4". I know it has to do with the prop size, which leads me to my next question, what is a good size starting prop? I also need some opinions on cap pools, and ubec choices. I am going to go with 8mm bullet connectors,
Also, should I use Teflon lined stuffing tube?
And what is the best way to bend the stuffing tube, with out kinking it?
Ill have a final hull weight hopefully tomorrow.

the best way to bend a stuffing tube without bending it, is to fill it with sand, then heat slightly and bend
If you heat it too much, the brass will "anneal"? or somthing , and basically it will stay softer after its cooled down and it will bend around a bit.

There is a stuffing tube bending tool you could use too:

I'm glad you are back into the build. Keep us posted.

Finally got a weight on the hull. Its not completly finished yet but. Hull less the canopy iss weighing in at 6 lbs. And all the hardware plus the electronics less the batteries weigh in at 6.75 lbs. So I am estimating 14 lbs complete plus the batteries. How about you.

It should be in the 15lbs vicinity. The bow was reinforced with a forward brace and paint is almost done. I'll post a final weight soon.

I heat it until it's glowing red, then let it cool slowly (anneal). Bend it to fit (you'll be surprised at how easily it will bend and resist kinking). Finally, heat it up again - this time quickly quenching it in cool water (this makes it hard again).

                    Strength of hull.

Question. I am doing some final body work on the hull and I am second guessing my self on the over strength of the hull. I am estimating that with the power I am putting in this boat it should hit 50 plus mph. Does any one have an idea of how much pressure / stress I can expect on the hull. Most of the hull is 1/8" ply with two layers of fiberglass mat. The ribs are 1/4" ply and the top is foam covered in 2 layers of fiber glass. Any input would be great.

Also, is it 100 percent necessary to put the stringers ( i think that is what they are called) on the bottom of the hull? Or can I have a smooth bottom v hull?

Its funny you asked. I have just ordered the batteries.the last big expence. And have been installing the electronics. Then she is off to the air brush artist. I plan to post some pictures in the next few days. What size / kind/ rating battery did you go with?.

I did not want to spend an arm and a leg so I went with 4x4S 4500mAh 30 lipos YKS brand on an 8S2P configuration for a total of 9000mAh which is good for a 5 mins run. I don't know if this batteries are still for sale at ebay but if you find them buy them. I have used them before on my smaller boats and fo far so good on this one too. These were selling at $32 dollars each so I only spent $128 for four batteries which is a steal! These are the batteries, I don't know if they still have 4S.

Get the best deals for Yks Batteries at eBay.com. We have a great online selection at the lowest prices with Fast & Free shipping on many items!

Your boat looks great. Were you able to get a top speed? I ordered gen aces 6s 4400 mah 35c four of them. I am going to do similar to you with series parallel 12s . We will see how long of a run ill get.

I was unable to go WOT because of the pond size limitations but did go close to 3/4T. Top speed wasn't achieved on that video. I believe it could easily reach +50mph on a large enough lake. Wow you are going w/ a 12s setup, your boat should take off and fly!
