42" Custom Mono with 56110 Build

Hi all, I am currently in the process of building a 42" mono. The hull is made of 1/8" plywood with 5" rails covered in two to three coats of fiberglass. The top half of he hull is hand shaped home insulation foam covered in two layers of fiberglass. This is the second hull I am building like this, the first was a great success but it was only a 24" mono built the same way except one layer of fiberglass not two. I am hoping this 42" hull will be strong enough to handle 50+ mph. I plan to install a leopard 56110 kv 620 running on 12s. the motor mount i made out of 1/4" plate aluminum. Does anyone recommend using vibration damper on the motor mount. I have 1/2" of space on each side of mount and rail. Things i still have to consider are ESC and drive train. prop. Any input would be great. I will post updates of the build as I progress.

No Vibration damper needed. Remember we don't have pistons bouncing up and down.

      Hello zx11976r,

Have you figured out what drive shaft size are you going to use? Are you going 1/4" or .187?

I am thinking of getting a 1/4" stinger by speed master. 1/4" cable. Not sure of prop size. I should be done with hull next week to get a weight so hopefully we can get a rough size for starting prop.

With the amount of hp of our motors. We both should use a 1/4" cable. What do you think.

Curious to know the dry weight of the hull alone. Is it heavy?

I am moving forward with a 1/4" drive system. Yeah, my AquaStar motor is capable of producing approx 7hp.

The hull is still under construction. I still need to do some body filler, paint, and Build the canopy. But as it stands now it has two layers of fiberglass a weighs in at about 5 lbs. I will post a the actual weight as soon as it is complete.

Got the 1/4" stinger and dual pickup tapered 4" offset rudder. Both by speedmaster. & Lg. turning fins. Parts look so nice. cannot wait to finish hull to mount them.

Running anything smaller than 1/4" cable would be a mistake unless you enjoy replacing cables, rebuilding stuffing tubes and buying props. Props to begin with would be an x457, x455/3 and/or an x462. It may take some trial and error to find the best one, a lot depends on the speed you want and the runtime you'll accept. A reliable ESC capable of handling 200 amps is plenty for a 12S boat.

Fluid. Would you say that going with the 300 amp esc would just be a waste of money. Or just a bad idea because of electrical issues. Only reason I ask is because I plan to get the 300 from swordfish pro.

                        zx11976r,

How's the build progressing. Do you have new pictures to show us?

Little more progress, I got the hull fully fiber-glassed. Currently using body filler to make hull look nice. Then the fun begins finally getting to mounting all the hardware. Gyrotron You are really flying with your build, I have so many projects going on rite now for the holidays, I will get more time on my build after the holidays. Slow and Steady wins the race. Let me know what ESC and batteries you plan to use. I am currently thinking of using 300 Swordfish with two 5000 6s in series. or maybe 5300.

The hull looks strong. Have you weighted the hull? mine is standing at 10.5 lb and I would add probably 3.5lb more for the batteries and ESC so looking at 14lb ready to run.

I have no scale capable of accurately weighing the hull. Going to friends house with a scale later this week as soon as I know weight I'll post it.
