It looked like at first that if you pulled the bottom of the fin out that it would expose a unsharpened portion of the fin. Now I see that it may not.

If you can, pull it back, make sure it's square and run it again with your other change(s).

      Good luck, and have fun!!

How is progress with 'spinning' Triton?
I have used an X445 and M445 prop, both are slightly faster than the X442 on 4S lipos, but the current draw is close to 80 amps which is way to much for the 8XL for anything other than SAW bursts.
On the other hand anything smaller in diameter than 42 mm will not hook up and cavitates badly, so 42 mm seems to be the magic number for the Triton.
If you think the turn fin may be causing the spin out in a straight line simply take it off for a run, it only there to aid stability in the turns and has no purpose in a straight line.
Stick with it, we'll get it sorted in the end. These hulls handle really well in my opinion if set up right.
I will be racing mine against a herd of Deltas this weekend. Wish me luck !!!!
          Graham.

Graham, Thanks for all the help. I have a X442 I will try on Saturday. I am going to try to get it ironed out then. I finally have a whole day to myself so Im will take my time and make small adjustments. Thanks again and smoke those Deltas!

I just had a burst of inspiration that might be relevent.
When I was setting up my Triton I contacted Joseph Toth ( Mr Toysport ) for advice and he stressed the importance of the strut angle.
He said on the stepped hulls do not align the strut with the last portion of the hull or keel as this is angled down and would push the bow down causing it to spin out.
The hull should be placed on a flat surface with all the steps in contact with that surface, and the strut set parallel to the flat surface.
On the non-stepped version like mine the strut is set parallel with the running pad.
              Graham.

                That makes perfect sense Graham.

FWIW, I had to finish the season with a 8XL in my Titon last year due to a bearing problem with my 1515 1Y.
The wc 8XL made the one mile trip with a 640 without breaking a sweat.

                Good luck this weekend guys!!
We're headed south for two days of fun in the sun running big "circlee circles" at Lake Blackshear.

Hey guys the Triton got a little better with the changes you guys suggested. This run is with a Prather 220 prop. Everything was alright until the flex cable snapped. I got the 150 Hughey cable and liner from OSE I will put it in tomorrow. Its a little better but I didnt get much time to tweak anything. Thanks guys WIll

Hi, I've just come across this post and am a fellow Triton owner. Mine is red/blue with a flood chamber and is running with a Lehner 2240/7 motor. 45,000rpm+ with its 22.2v 6S1P Kokam lipo (30c). I use a CC Hydra 240 and have touched 60mph in the right conditions.

                      Here's my layout:

And a short video, in really bad conditions. (couldn't go much above half throttle)

                      I run a 48mm steel prop.

No Step, and no trim tabs either.

Will my Triton was very sensitive to pos or neg trim on the strut. When neg IE: pointing down to try and trim the nose in it would hook turn, when set level or 1-2 deg pos it never hooked. It does like a long turn fin for oval. Is all your weight on the left to help the self righting? I found this is why, if the wieght is centered a neutral strut works well. I have done close to 60mph in this hull and that is at least 10mph more than the hull can handle. I hope this helps

Yes, the weight is off-centre to make the flood chamber wrrk. Centre of gravity seems to be key for me. My battery is a 1P pack so when I push it forward, to keep the nose down, it comes close to being centered and then the flood chamber fails to work sometimes. Also, at 60mph the nose only has to lift slightly, from a ripple, and the wind catches it so I push the weight forward. This of course produces hooking in the corners if you not careful on the throttle. But, as you say, the hull is only really meant for 50mph. When the conditions are perfect I run the 6S1P batt, but I think I'll get a 4S1P for sport running. I may even go 2P to extend the run times. Wonder if the extra weight will make for a better handling hull and lower speeds??
