    Triton build lookin for advice

Just finished puttin on the hardware and a 8Xl. Gettin ready to solder the connectors on the Hydra 240. I was wondering I have seen some people putting the ESC right on top of the motor. Do you guys suggest this and if so how are you mounting it? Just zip ties? Any help would be great.

I originally had the ESC mounted on top of the motor, just secured by two small zip ties, it worked fine.
The only problem I had with that position was it made it difficult to get at the flex coupling for regular removal of the shaft for maintenance. I was mainly concerned with damaging the capacitors with clumsy use of the wrench.
I have since moved it to just ahead of the motor on the l/h side still using the same 3 short wires.
This new position means I can shorten the wires from the batteries in the future.
    Graham.

Thanks Graham. I can see your point about the capacitors. Especially if I have had a few drinks. LOL

I prefer to mount them on a epoxy coated foam block shaped to fit the bottom of the hull forward of the motor.

Here is a shot of my current set up with the ESC sitting on top of a block of foam.
Mine is a non-self righting version so I have a bit more room but I think this would still work for you.
By the way, the Deans connections work fine on my 4S set up with an 8XL, don't even get warm, but I figure as they get a bit worn or corroded I will replace them with 5-6 mm bullets.
Hope this info helps, we Triton drivers have to stick together.
          Graham.

First run still need some adjustments.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6tdrAFpgDs8XL on 4S. Keeps wantin to spin out to the right unless I give it some left rudder. Other than that its alright. THANK GOD FOR THE FLOOD CHAMBER!!!

Same question on spinning out here also. My neighbor's 29" Skunkworks does it too. in need of a turn fin? it has just the strut and rudder in the water, no turn fins or tabs.
My prop hasn't been wet in a while.

I've just noticed from your earlier picture that yours is a stepped hull while mine is non- stepped with a flat ride pad. Don't know if this makes the set up different as mine has never tried to spin out like that.
I have the same speedmaster trim tabs as you but my rudder is further back, level with the prop.
Is the hull balanced down the centre line, ie one side not heavier than the other ?
I have found the best c/g to be 30% and use an Octura X442 prop.
                    Graham.

If the above suggestions check out OK I would question whether the rudder is doing its job.
Is it deep enough, is the linkage strong enough,( I always use a straight push rod with no bends ) and is the servo OK ?
                      Hope this helps.

Graham and Doug thanks for the help. I am gonna lengthen the rudder bracket and try again. Doug I know I told you it was a X442 prop but I was mistaken it is a X 445. Is that too big? I tried a X640 and the boat barely got on plane. Thanks again guys I really appreciate it. Will

You'll be ok with the 445. The 640 has a bit more pitch if you can get it to hook up.

                          How was the turnfin?

The fin really needs to be moved up a bit so that you can pull it back some, or use a smaller fin.

It should be 90 degrees to the transom and 90 degrees to the bottom of the boat.
It looks ok in the pics but I would check it with a square.
