    Tom's SW36 Converstion

I got my SW36 2 days ago. Shes been cleaned up ans stripped. Some of you may wonder why I just didnt buy an FE hull. There are not any hulls around 35 inches that look even remotely scale. The Aeromarine Chalenger is about it. My only two options where a 30 and 43. I am waiting for some deals to work out before I can pick up my HW. I had planned a KB11XL but happened a great deal on an 8. So my battery selection in regards to cell count changed a little bit. I'm still waiting on HM to get the 200amps back in stock. I should have the HW ordered Monday night. The motor mount I'll look into later on today. I may use one of the rail mounts. This IS the last project of the tear for me. Upon completion I"ll have cat & mono around 35". That's all I'll be needing for a while.

Yep I like torturing myself. Heck I think I may take this one over to the beach for some air time. Depends on how water tight I can make her.

All my hardware is ordered. I went mix and match. I picked up a speedmaster stinger from ose. Trime tabs where a bit of a search. I wanted a dual ajustable set for each side. I found what I was lookin for at Top Secret anodized in blue. The rudder search took about a week and a half. After looking @ everything out there I stumbled across the Aeromarine upgrade kit for the BJ55. I shot over to horizon and picked up a set of BJ55 rudder brackets and controle horns for a total of 25 bucks. The Kit from Aeromarine was another 50 shipped. So I got this nice dual rudder setup for 80 bucks. I'm still looking for some carbon fiber turn fins. I found some on ebay a while back but deleted the link. That will about do it. Attached is a picture of the Aero kit.

              Clean out

I woke up this morning with some new found motivation. Maybe it's due to the huge stack of baby stuff I have to put together over the next week. The first order of business was cutting out that electronics box mounted neer the stern. That was a pound I bet. Then I busted out the channel locks and started rocking stringers back and fourth. I had flash backs of last year and my first BJ26 conversion. Good old proboat still uses that cheap white glue. They snapped right free. The las step was the dremmel and saw followed up with the mouse orbital sander. I am ready for the HW install, which I am heading out to do right after this post. Thats a nice pile of un needed weight in the picture. The hull feels much lighter now.

Got most of the HW installed. I am going to hold off on tabs and turn fins untill I test. The last hing I did tape off all the unused holes, prop it up on the stend and fill them with epoxy. I'll let it sit over night. The next step will be the radio and servo placment. I am waiting on a custom rail mount for the KB.

on this speedmaster stinger, i have notice water making its way into the hull thru the gap where it adjusts. maybe teflon tube all the way in to where the sleeve bearing ends might work.

ok, installed new .150 teflon tube and bought 4M X 8M X2M metric O-ring (.58 cents) and slide it over the teflon tube allowing tube to go inside stinger strut, then greased tube with silicone "grease" up to O-ring the rest with running grease. reassembled. pretty much stopped the water. the grease is slinging around but i do have the covers over the cable.

Rudders came in today. They are a little big but I had planned on it. I am not to happy with the finish or lack there of. They kind of looked like they where cut by hand with a hack saw. Add the fact they are scrached to s _ _ t & 50 bucks for the kit is not such a good deal. Any how ya can't see them in the water so I'm not gona sweat it. I am 2 controle horns and a tie rod short. I'll track down the tie rod when I make the order from horizon.[/ With any luck I can get some more done tomorrow night.
