How do the AQ 2030 motors hold up. wouldnt mind trying one in a 32" hotr cat for club spec if its allowed
    Try this :

Quite a few racers run these in 32" cyberstorms ( I think with x442's) and they hold up. Seems like that's a big boat for the AQ motor but the HOTR cat should run looser with less draw on the motor. Just my guess. I'm running the AQ2030 in my MC with a M445 for sprintrace-length times (@2.5 min) and so far all is ok although I just fan-cooled the motor for some extra insurance

Yea that video link works. looks good on the water.
The hotr cats are fairly light and really only 28-29" cat with over hang. they seem to do better with higher rpm small dia prop rather than the other way around.
Sorry for jacking your thread Paul

Thanks guys . She's getting there.
        Tony.
I ran it at our Pine Rivers club on Sunday with a 4214/3 blade & she was fast & smooth in an average choppy water. By the time I'd finished I had changed the strut angle from about 1-1/2 degrees positive, to level with the ride plate, dropped the tabs a bit, & moved the battery forward about an inch or so. With the hooks blueprinted she's much easier to trim now.
Joker Rc turned up & took some video. When he uploads them onto You tube I'll post a link to them.

        Ozzie.
Our Club Spec Mono & Hydro is an XL 2 pole 3674 size motor (any Kv you like) Any ESC , 4s1p weighing less than 650 grams. But there isn't a club spec cat. You would have to run in EA tunnel/cat which is any motor, any ESC, but still 4s1p.
So the AQ 2030 would work well. I used to run an 8Xl (2075kv) with an X640 in my old 32" Apparition. She got along ok.

No apologies necessary by the way. I don't consider it 'Jacked' while you are still talking boats. Of any type.

        Cheers.

I have the hull just sitting there so i thought i would set it up so i could come up.and race now and then.
I ran a few of these hulls before with 8xl,9xl,7xl and they scoot along ok. Dont handle as well as a Mean Machine but for just a run now and then couod be fun with a ul-1 motor/esc

              Chris.
Thanks for posting that. Although the slow motion stuff is great, some of the other footage seems a bit faster than it should be. I'll have to check with Joker & see if it was a camera setting thing or an editing thing.

              Ozzie.
I'm afraid that for insurance purposes, as required by both the Lakeside Raceway & the AMPBA, you will have to join our club and the AMPBA to be able to run on the lake. Even if you only want to run now & then. Total cost is $80.00 a year.
That's a small price for so much fun though.

Yep. We still meet every Saturday afternoon at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

Jocker Rc has put together another bit of a video from Sundays' racing, but without the music.

part of editing footage you need to make it fit , only parts i sped up was the over view of the boats on the bench ,and when old mate walked down on pontoon to retrieve the boats , , i dont do fake speed videos .its just not right .

                      Hello Paul,

I watched the video. Seemingly trimmed a bit loose. What was your JC30 ready to run weight and porp. diameter?

Really a fun game. I need to build one for own use.

                      Happy rc boating,

                        Hi Leo.
With the 4074 motor & a Zippy 5000mah 45C pack on board, she weighs in at just under 2.4 kg. Prop was a Prop Shop 4214/3 blade.
I think that it's the ride pad that makes the boat run loose now, so I think I'll build it into a V & see how she rides then.

Here's another clip with the JC30 under test at our Boondall club, along with some other boats too.

                        Cheers.

A simple modification. Use abbrasive paper to sand off the edge of the pad, change the edge to fillet. Or add ballast.

I believe that a light weight high power boat do not need a ride pad. Tony‘s first thought was to race this boat in limited power class. Your club has similar class too.

                          Happy rc boating,

                          Leo

Wow - that vid got my blood pressure rising Boat's fast with that power. I've found that at these speeds more weight keeps the boat better planted. If your race org. allows more weight/mAh, go to a 2P setup (or is there a restriction on batt's ?) Most of the boats I run in racewater have more batt's or ballast. I'm not sure the ridepad contributes to a loose runner; a boat that's too light for choppy water will appear loose no matter what. Of course, since mine's rigged for Ltd. class racing with speeds mid 40's I set it up on the loose side with a 4S 5000. After the Nat's I'll drop in a full P-Power setup & see what happens !!

                                Hi Leo.
It is a simple modification, as you say. I've done it a few times with other hulls.

                                Tony.
joker rc is right. We are only allowed a single pack of 650grams or less for 4s in our EA Mono class. No parallel packs. So as you can imagine, that restricts prop choices if we want to complete a race with a bit left in the pack. Ballast is definitely an option to be tried.
What seems to be the 'general' P spec motor/ESC that most guys use over there in the States? Just looking for a general comparison.
                                Cheers.
