    Aeromarine Scorpion build question

    Scorpion.jpgIMG00134-20111017-0532[1].jpgIMG00135-20111017-0532[1].jpgHi all,

I've been working on this build with the guidance of Jesse J. and have built on his recommendation(should I be scared).JK I'm using a 9/16 brass flood chamber tube with a 1/4 brass stuffing tube alonf with a huey .187 flex cable. This has been a fun project and am so excited to to see how she'll perform in P-mono. So far everything is lining up real nice! My issue before I nail everything down is I had to sand the1/4 stuffing tube in order for it to be able to slide into the strut which worked out well.you'll see with the .187 cable in the 1'4 tube doesn't allow for plastic tubing? sorry if I got the terminology mixed up? will there be any issues with leaving the plastic sleave out or do I need to go with a .150 cable with the plastic insert?IMG00128-20111017-0530[1].jpgIMG00133-20111017-0532[1].jpg

There are endless debates on this... Either way is fine. I did give you the Teflon stuffing liner if you wanted to use it...But you would have had to have used the larger stuffing tube.

But in order to use the larger stuffing tube would require a lot of sanding in order for it to fit in strut. There was a fair amount of sanding to get the 1/4 in stuffing tube to fit in the strut. Not sure that would be possible without boring the inside of strut? I dunno...

Some people use teflon some don't, Personally the first thing I do is remove it if a boat has it. Been into rc boats since the 80's when people first started using flex cables and nobody used them in the beginning.
My opinion is if you really don't need it and it isn't in the boat then it can't cause a problem.
Not sure if I've ever seen a problem with not using it but I've definatly seen problems with it, and when the teflon melts and binds up it's big problems, I've seen stuffing tubes that looked like Elmer Fudds gun in a Bugs Bunny cartoon!
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

one other quick question...in the photo showing the water chamber tube coming out of the back..you'll notice it is coming out roughly 7mm from the bottom...a little higher than I would have liked...I think? Do you see a problem with the position?

Only if you are planning to use a dinky little prop!

It's a hydro strut I used in order to do the flood chamber which allows more strut adjustment. if it was mounted properly I would have
Had to make a plate otherwise the strut wouldn't work.

That sounds like a long- winded impromptu justification for externally enhanced hind-sight optics....
The real question is how did it run?

Surely you didn't think I'd have it finished yet?

Possibly a stupid question, but in the stuffing tube is "floating" on the 1/4 flood chamber, what secures it and keep the water from coming in to the boat? Rubber O rings? Grommets?

Yep. It's a magic nylon washer thing I found in the plumbing section of ace hardware. It happened to fit perfectly AND hold the .25" stuffing tube so it could pivot with strut adjustment.

Jesse scored the perfect nylon washer at Ace hardware. I'd say it's approx. 1/4" thick and fits snug inside the flood chamber. I don't have a pic of the washer but here is the package it came in.IMG00136-20111017-0543.jpg

Thought I'd share a few pics of a vinyl decal I found i thought looked cool. I ordered 2 .9x13 flames to go along the side by the hatch.image005.jpgIMG00156-20111024-1947.jpg Inexpensive quick fix!
