Hey Larry, I had the first Gen bottom also. The huge fins did help but I still suffered some spin outs in choppy race water. I really didnt want to do it, but I ended up sanding the last seven inches of the strake half way down. I didnt go flush with the hull because I wanted to avoid having to reinforce the inside of the hull. I just sanded parallel with the bottom of the hull so I have these funny looking mini chines. I'll post some pics tomorrow. It's not the optimal set up but it seems to have worked. Another thing I did was add some lead low (about 10 ounces) at the CG and that also keeps her planted in the chop. I have not run it in a race since the mods but last fall I ran her in choppy water and she held well in the turns well. I have even gone back to the OSE XL fins. Over the winter I did one more change and that was to replace the slightly cut down Seaducer rudder I was using with a full length blade. The original rudder was long enough to turn her but I see Tony uses a very large rudder so I decided an extra 2/3 inch may also help keep her planted in the turns. So I have one more test n tune next weekend and then first race of the seaon next month. We'll see what happens. I had some rotten luck the two new P-Mono hulls last year and hope I can just enjoy racing them this year.

Having hands-on experience with several IB34 builds, I stand alone in the minoritywith my take that the "strake" thing isn't the issue. My boat was the first to hit the water , and with the original "full strake" bottom never exhibited the turn/hop thing. Like a good sheep I shortened my outside strake 7" and it turned just the same; just fine. A big rudder, XXL fins, & a strong servo might be why. The IB34 has a few degrees less deadrise than, say, a Titan 33" or Cyber32/DF33 and stays way more stable at full chat in the straights minus the chine walk associated with extreme deadrise hulls* but won't lay over as much in the turns which, as far as I'm concerned, IS the issue - that's why bigger fins neutralize this.
* Pete's yellow Cyberstorm wobbles down the straights; Dick's white IB34 stays stable in the groove. (Newland was untouchable)
Tyler's yellow Cyberstorm was faster but couldn't handle the gasserwater slop & bellied up; Mark's & my white IB34's held the groove & took first & second :

Let's not start a Insane versus Cyberstorm war Tony.
I like your theory on deadrise but my theory is the the strakes were a little too far back on this hull which caused the stern to lift and aerate enough in the turns for it to loose it's bite on the water. We may both be a right. Who knows. You prevented it from the start by using big hardware. Others sanded down the strakes. All I know is we're learning stuff about mono hulls and thats cool. Also let it be said that the new Insane monos have a slightly different bottom which corrected the handling problem a few of us were experiencing.
Here are the pics of my strakes. Not the optimal way to reduce them but I didnt feel like tearing my boat apart to sand and add a layer of glass to the interior. Plus my local mono guru's told me to take down the strakes a little at a time. The boat seems to handle very well in the turns as well as the straights.Mike Chirillo

Glad you got that mono tuned a bit better Chilli...
Good advice trying a stronger servo Tony...might help out a good bit...
You could always get a Rico...lol! J/K!

Kent,
Didn't I tell you I bought a Rico?? Carl and I are going to use it as a retrieval boat for the Capitol Club.
BTW- I maidened my Huff Racing/AeroMarine Vector and the P-Limited TS3 on Saturday. Both boats rocked right out of the gate. I couldn't be happier with how they ran.The tunnel is ready to race and I'll be doing some prop testing on the Vector this weekend. You getting any pond time?? Hope you can make it to Hagerstown!!

Update: Ran the Insane mono at our first district race three weeks ago. The hull tweak worked great. I came in second for the weekend with no DNF's behind Doug Twaits Jr's national championship boat. We lapped allot of boats that weekend (mostly B-Nitro mono's). The boat handled the race water very well. I did have one spin out but it was coming out of a turn in sloppy water when I should of come off the throttle. After two years with crappy luck with P-Mono's, I'm finally a happy camper.Mike Chirillo
