Hi Guy's
,
Recently i started putting together my Dumas Hotshot .45 , i bought at the start of the year , at a good price . Being hesitant to start as this is my first scratch build , it is proving not to be too daunting . The paint scheme that i have in mind for it is the JPS F1 Raceboat , that was raced by Bob Spalding ( World Champion F1 1980-1 ) in Europe ( circa 1978-84 ) . As i consider myself a history buff , when it comes to Australian Raceboats , i was intrigued into building this race scheme from Roy Cooper's well documented website www.fastonwater.co.uk , the site contains stories and pictures from a time that i beleive is so colourful in paint schemes and characters such as Cees Van Der Velden .
Recently I have emailed Roy Cooper who lives in Oulton Broad ( N/E of England ) , which is one of the waterways Bob Spalding raced . Roy is following this build with keen interest , as he is a Brittish Raceboat Historian . plans are being made to send this build to Roy , so that way it can be ran on the historic Raceboat circuit in Oulton Broad . This may be a for first R/C Boating , though as it is a replica of Bob Spalding's Raceboat the trip should be of benefit to those in England that remember the late and great Bob Spalding , one of the U.K's true sporting icons and Gentlemen . BG
The .45 is 35 inches by 14 inch & voids will filled with pool noodle foam . Will also be fitted out with 6S set up , so it would great to hear from you guy's especially here in Oz regarding particular parts (BL motor etc ) as i want it near enough to be being 6S outboard AMPBA Spec ready once complete I know it's an older hull , though with it set up , i am sure it would still capable of being in the same realm as mod tech hulls in 6S class .....
So far i have carried out the following in order ,
1) Sprayed all wooden parts still in their parts frame with enamel for waterproofing .
2) Built a jig , for the frame to be trued, & used C.A to fix the cross frames in place .
3) Attached side skins to frame which required a lot of working on , as Dumas made a mistake by not supplying side skins that were correct dimension . The hull required a bit of epoxy resin to fill uneven lines that were created by rectifying Dumas oversight ...
There is a bit of sanding to do next before giving the hull ( bottom section ) a light thinned out coat of epoxy resin ....
As i am able to progress on this further at the moment , i shall post updates every few days or so ......
All the best in F/E R/C Boating
