    34" ul1 ply wood build

I thought it was time to try building a hull , i like my UL1 , but its that tad too small & i wanted a nice 6s hydro .

I have taken all the measurements from my UL1 & enlarged them by 25% so the build works out at 34" long & 16" wide at the sponsons .

I have put plans to paper & have started cutting out all the pieces ...

Got most of the pieces cut & started putting it together ...

Can anyone put me onto a good product to seal all the joins inside to make it water tight ..

    Cheer jason

Great work and I like the initiative. As for sealing the interior, I use spray shellac or similar paint on by Minwax. I like the spray because I think you end up with a lighter end product, but then the paint on does ensure that you have everything covered.

I have some plans by Garry Finlay if you want to make your bulkheads for the sponsons from them. Just let me know and I can point you to a link; actually here they are.

construction foam and epoxy. get the blue/pink insulation board 2" thick or so, cut with band saw, shape with coarse sandpaper then coat with epoxy when happy with shape. You can even glass it to be stronger. I just take a cockpit shape I like, trace it then transfer to the foam to know where to cut it. I did the one in my avatar that way, came out pretty good.

started building the sponsons today , i went with 2 part slow cure epoxy , mixed with west systems 403 microfibre blend for all the joins & sealing . Took some stuffing around to get the sponsons all true , cause im cutting all my pieces with hand saws , but all is good now

Thanks again Jesse for the tips on building the cockpit .

The pictures show how much bigger its going to be compared with my AQ , UL1

Not that i know of , the UL1 was a good first build a lot of straight lines to work with there are only 3 curves to deal with , the top deck , bottom of the hull & the front of the sponsons .

got all the hardwear , got 50 bucks worth birch wood ply today for the decking , i should be at the stage of laying down the decking tonight . i could not get a single piece of birchwood big enough to cover the deck so im going to do it with three pieces , i will use some pin stripping to cover the 2 joins .

Im using 8mm balsa wood for all the ribbing , the build is at the 1kg mark at this stage , hoping the finished product will be around the 1.5-1.7 kgs ...

Are you going to run the 1515 in this one?
