    Building the 34" INSANE Mono

In order to get this race-ready, I went with a trusty, proven Neu 1521 1.5D, and a T-180 with extra Etti caps and a modified full-chamber cooling cap sparks it up. Speedmaster 60/90 rudder, stinger shortened to place the drive dog near the front of the rudder blade, large split trim tabs and XXL large fins on the business end. Since I'm a glutton for punishment, 4" rails with a Peter Z mount.

I intended to mount the servo from the inside of the rails, but it protruded too far inside and would interfere with the speed control. Quick thinking, a piece of aluminum scrap, some cutting, filing and tapping and the servo now mounts from the outside (of the rail) to the inside and I can screw in the servo bolts easily instead of trying to get my fingers inside to hold the nuts.

Pinned the front of the hatch with a leatherwork rivet. Rear secured with screw-down threaded cap screws. Simple and effective.

Fitting the T-180 with the Etti cap board on top of the motor mount under the hatch was close - the bottom of the cap board is insulated from the top of the
      T-180 with a piece of G-10.

Tricked out some bulkhead fittings for the water outlets.

Business end : I lucked out and the trim tab adjusters cleared the rudder bracket; only had to trim down one adjusting screw.

Trimmed down the rudder some; may trim some more after trials.

Dove into the sticker box & plastered some on. Simple and understated, but this boat has some great lines in my opinion so not much was needed in the way of graphics.

The hull is solid as a rock, and with the heavy-duty build I'm really looking forward to it's maiden voyage. Mark already won the FE Open Class at the H2O Gassers race at Legg Lake last week with his, and Greg really likes his (and he KNOWS monos).

Video to follow, but for now, I NEED SOME REST after cranking this one out in less than a week

Very nice build Tony. I agree, sometimes less is more. Why distract from a good looking hull with flashy paint and decals.

                      Got it handled !

BTW, to keep my "Team Bondo" reputation alive and current, during the H20 Gassers FE Open race recently, I hit the "carnage" jackpot when, on the back straightaway at full chat I nailed my dead P-Sport FE 30 that Jeff was driving with my other FE 30 that I was driving. A "2 for 1 Special" for Team Bondo
