I painted the boat and made new hatch, the 3rd photo is how it looks now. The internal arrangement is same. I will post some "fresh" photos from the inside

3rd times a charm right? i'm confident i got it right this time. i switched to 80 grit 3m automotive sandpaper vs. the wood sandpaper i was using before ( which didnt seem to really do the job well ). the new paper did a MUCH better job roughing the surface up. i spent alot of time sanding then cleaned with Acetone. finally i got finishing resin which has a MUCH slower dry time than the 30 min epoxy i was using before. ( 45 - 50 mins work time and 3 hours to tack free!!) which i reduced with 91% alcohol vs. the 50% i used the second time, causing the epoxy to dry rubbery. this time im almost 100% sure i got the bond ive been looking for

can somebody please tell me how much setback is needed on the rudder when using the speedmaster 21 strut with mono bracket? im not sure of the dimensions on the speedmaster strut... the front edge of the rudder should be in line with the front edge of the prop? would this be right? or should it be setback a little behind the prop....

I think my rudder's leading edge was in front of the prop on my MM. To answer your other question, the back edge of a Speedmaster 21 mono strut is 2" from the transom. Add 1/4" or so for drive dog, and that's where your prop starts.

i believe aeromarine recommends the longer version of the 21 rudder, i think its 2 1/4 set back. i hope thats the correct one cus its the one i just ordered for mine

Mine turned fine at low speeds. I had seen a few MMs built with the mono strut and hydro rudder brackets, so followed suit. At high speeds it would occasionally hook or slide - depending on the water conditions. I'm sure I could have tuned it better, but it was very competitive and I never had much time for testing. I've since sold the boat.

It should turn well at low speed Dana. Monos are worse for low speed turning. You have to be going fast enough to bank to the side of the hull before it will turn well. Mean machines are some of the best turning cats out there.

That's right, the mean machine can turn at higher speeds than most (maybe all) of other boats of same length. I saw that with mine running against other cats of similar size but different makers (H&M etc...)
