    jae12 electric conversion

Hey guys I bought one of these for a fun boat as something to just run around for fun. the sponsons are going to have leds shining thru the bottom to light up the water and there will be other leds on the boat. one of our local clubs does night runs so I thought I would build something to play with. well on to the pics

gluing the tub in my rigger jig

    just a different angle

    tub is framed up

modified bulkheads for the electronic conversion

I am using the allen wrench to lay out the lip I have to make for the front part of the boat. The gas version has no hatch its just open so I use allen wrench as a spacer and it gives me a nice corner on the lip.

lip and hatch laid out I will cut them in the morning its to late to run the saw.

sponson taped up the dowels should be flush on the inside of the sponson it will make it easier to sand them if the extra is on the outside.

just closeups of the dowels and how I taped them together while the epoxy cured. The dowels are for the turn fin to attach to.

not bad for a days work I dont think. thanks for the help danny

That is going to look sweet with LEDs. I wonder where you got that idea?

The tub is 36.5mm tall. With a dome hatch it could be more. We plan on running 380 sized motors w/ jackets. Since the 12G2's don't come with a hatch cover for the fwd compartment, one has to be made.

the problem i had was batteries..... are you going 2s? what size do you plan on for 380? the reason i am asking is i allready built a 4s ul-1 12fe but i have 2 kits that i am waiting for something to do with. i would bet you could pull one of the mod 1440's from the nitros with a 380 but am worried the batteries wont be able to keep up with the amp draw.

i will be watching this build. here is my current 12fe:

On the other hand, My JAE21FE I'm building will race. I widened the sponsons by 1/4" and widened the tub by 1-1/4" (She's as wide as the Matrix and/or Insanity) She is simply gorgeous. I hope I can get her paint and finish to do her justice.

why are you making it wider danny? is it to fit the motor mount? are you also making the ski wider? when i was dealing with rod g (talked alot when building nitro's) he recomended that maybee i go a little wider on the ski to compensate for the additional weight. i didnt and it worked out fine on the 12 and 21. i did however widen the tub a little to fit the motor mount. i am thinking about making one that use a 380 and i will just fab a mount to fit the stock tub..

It's simple Chuck. I have very BIG hands. I widened my 21fe because I just loved the Matrix and Insanity 4" wide tub, Plus I ALWAYS second guess every designer!
However, I will NOT be widening the 12's sponsons like I did my 21
