Yes this is what I normally do. On the other hand if decals are applied last then they can be changed in the future, also I can make as many decals as I like, since these were made in a decals-labels shop and they can reprint and recut, no problem.

Personally i would clearcoat first then add decals, most decals are now UV safe for between 5-7 years left outside in the weather with no problems with fading etc so theyr fine as they are on our boats(i doubt most boats last that long before needing some repairs anyway).
Also as you say if you decide to change them later or your boat gets damaged you can just remove the decals near the damage repair it and replace the decals.

I finished the painting and next are the decals.

depends on the fabrics material, carbon kevlar (like mine) gives the best strength and weight combination. I wanted to make mine 3kgrs 6.6 lbs of hull only and it came up at this weight and I feel that it is pretty strong. the key points are the motor-battery-esc-rudder servo mounts which act like frames and stringers and make the hull rigid. so the cost will be

                              glass fabric - $300
carbon kevlar or carbon - $400

but plase note that the gel coat will not very very shiny and like mirror, it will be like mat.
you can use the same speedmaster hardware which I used which are by far cheaper

Have you thought about wet sanding and compounding the mould to help get a better finish on your parts?.Its surprising what a diference it will make to the parts if you do this.Use a high speed buffer and some 3 m compound in diferent grades working from medium to fine then finishing and it will bring it up like a new penny lol.
