    Twin outboard center console build

Hey guys, new member here. Been into large gas boats for many years but they are a pain and the neighbors complain when I run mine in the canal...I would too.

And being that I am into full scale boats I am building a scale Scarab like the one I own.

Here is a picture of my real boat.

Now the scale build. I know its not going to be a scale replica, but it will be a twin outboard center console. I have never seen an RC like this before.

The hull I am using is an Aeromarine 31" Challenger. I cut the deck out to resemble the cuddy cabin layout of my boat.

I built an engine bracket to hold the electric outboards. I will also build a deck, console and radar arch.

Motors dry fit, it will take some doing to get the CG and motor hight right, but I have rigged and hung motors on a few full scale boats including mine pictured above so i think I can get this one done.

This is where I'm at now. I'll update as I make progress. I already have all the components such as radio, ESC, ect that I got from Steve at OSE. Just need some batteries.

What batteries will be good for some decent run time? I have some 11.1 volt 3000 mAh LiPos from my RC Heli's I can use. Or do you guys recommend NiCad packs instead. They are brushed 550 motors.

Thanks! I know these hobbies aren't cheap, I have helicopters and boats. But the real boats are major money to keep going. I don't even know how I do it sometimes.

Yeah I have been looking for an RC center console (CC) for years. Finally got tired of looking and decided to build my own.

The only thing I'm not sure about is how I will replicate the radar arch. I may just build it out of plexi glass like I did the engine bracket. I'm pretty good with plexi.

Just did a float test in the pool, granted this was preliminary as the deck, stringers, inner liner, console and arch are not on the boat yet.

But with two 3300 mAh 11.1 volt LiPos up front the CG looks pretty good. The boats floating attitude was great.

So my question. Can I use these LiPos on brushed motors and ESCs?

Very cool build. Yes you can use the lipo with brushed esc's. But you should get some low voltage cutoffs.

Build your radar arch out of some brake line tubing and some silver brazing. If you need some ideas check out Scale4x4 or RCcrawlers. Those guys build roll cages for their rigs all the time. Or if you know someone who can weld to do it for you.

What about some brass tubing and a tubing bender, You could epoxy the pieces together and paint it silver?

Thanks for the compliments guys. I thought about the copper tubing and painting it silver. Brake lining sounds cool too. But the copper will have all kinds of fittings to make it easier.

Hey Steven, can you point me toward the low voltage cut offs?

Ficken AWESOME!!!! I love those Sports. When I was younger, 1985, my Dad was purchasing a new Wellcraft. I begged him to get a Super Sport. He got a 250 Sportsman instead... Which is still a cool boat. Very nice project. I will be watching this one for sure

                  Heres a LVC

Are you going with the stock 27t 550's? Its gonna be a fun build...........i like the fact you are staying brushed to keep it scale in speed.

Thanks, yeah I have always loved the Scarab Sport. I have had this one for about 8 years. I re-did everything on the boat. Pretty much the only thing original is the hull and engine bracket.

Wellcraft made them in three models. The 26 foot Sportster (aka Sprint) 30 foot Sport 302 which is what mine is and the 34 foot SS (Super Sport) Thats the one I really want but they are hard to find.

Here is a shot of mine taken by a buddy last weekend running from Ft Lauderdale to Elliot Key which is the upper FL Keys.

I'll be giving the RC boat the same paint scheme as well as painting the motors to match.

Yeah I'm leaving the stock brushed 550 motors. I don't need to go that fast though I'm sure it will hit 25+ MPH.

If I want to go 50+ I'll bring out my big gasser....

And if I want to go 60+ I'll jump in the full scale version above.

I see those LVCs are for forward ESCs only? The ESCs I have have reverse. I want to be able to use the reverse.

The LiPos are 3 cell 11.1 volt.

Chris, unless Im missing it, I think the Novak smart stop works both ways. Ive never used that type, so I could be wrong. But I was on Novaks site and dont see anywhere that it says Forward only. And I didnt know the OSE one did not operate in reverse... hmm. Learn something new everyday!
