Finally cratered to peer pressure and converted my Outlaw 7.5 to FE.
Started by filling the exhaust hole in the hatch with glass/bondo, and cutting off the exhaust support and filling that hole...not too bad. Stock stringers were about 3 5/8
, so decided to cut out and replace with 4" that are more compatible with std mounts. Stuff tube is stock except for a little bend downward to keep the motor lower.
For paint, exterior is dupli-color "exact match" lacquer based paints from local auto parts store and inside is oil based rust-o-leum. Not sure if it was Houston humidity or operator error but I'm not impressed with my paint job...it'll work for now though. Did I mention I hate painting boats?
Buddy down the street has an almost identical 39.5" mono with Neu 1527 1Y running 6S that I think runs great so decided to copy his power setup. Got exact 1527 1Y and aluminum cooling jacket from OSE, and 4" mount from "Punisher 67" here on the forum. Batts are Turnigy 5000mah 30C packs from HobbyKing and ESC is a Swordfish 240A.
First run yesterday was very unstable and ran 53mph with Octura X450 3 blade. Moved CG forward and dropped tabs a bit and just made a much more stable second run with it and GPS'd 56.5mph.
. Temps are good...130 ESC, and 100 motor and batts.
Tried a Prather 235 and temps were down a bit, but so was speed, back down to 53.5. This video is the 235...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFMPFSaeIY8
