My COG is about 15.25 inches from the transom. The fin seemed to work OK. We'll see once I get to run WOT in the turns. Just got done putting the coil on the motor. I am not sure if I'd have room for the aluminum jacket. Yhe motor is super low in that mount. I guess I could try the short one. It did run very cool though. Only about 1 min. of runtime at this point, so its hard to say.

No prop walk to speak of. Turned well in 3-4" chop even. Gonna swap over to a cooling coil. It's all I have on hand. Also***** The faceplate of the Leopard motors are super soft aluminum.*** Very easy to strip out the threads!
How do you determine that the water jacket is leaking? Im still getting water in the hull of my DF40, no matter how much I grease the flex or how well I tape the hatch. I was thinking of filling the cooling system with water and pressuse testing it with regulated air at work.
I flipped it for the first time today. I had just mounted the rx up high on the side of the inside of the hull to keep it away from any water...that proves to be counter-productive when the boat is upside down. Good news though, my rx seems to hold water quite well! Didnt leak a bit untill I took it out of the boat and poured the water out of it

I always coat my Rx's with dp270. I submerged it in water once for kicks, still worked without a glitch.

Keith, give it a test. If it is the jacket, I have another I can send you. My guess, if it isn't the jacket, it may be the fittings on it. Ran again, No water in the hull! Plenty of grease slingin though. Need to make a guard. She is FAST!! Ran with my Tactic, had no probs. Dropped the strut down to about .765", and she's tracking nicely. Not sure about the AQ fin. It does have more flex than I'd like. Might switch it up.

Grimracer once stated that using a silicone water jacket in the faster UL-1 will not work. High water pressure will blow water out from under it (SV27 version). The homade aluminum coil version will flow water like gangbusters and will not leak...it's all I use.

Grimracer was right!! That's a lot of pressure!

I used that silicone water jacket on my fe30 and it worked fine at 60+ mph. That jacket is pretty good. I hit 55-57mph with the sv27 jacket on my ul-1 motor in the fe30 as well not a single drop of water in the hull. I don't think the aluminum jacket will fit with that mount anyways. I used the sv27 jacket cause the fe30 cowl is so narrow that nothing would fit.

The entire hull has been rebuilt since I got it from Mark and now and I've got an aluminum jacket fitting fine with an ose mount. I still think those silicone leopard jackets are fine. If worried put some silicone around it after u put it on.

Hmm, maybe I had it twisted weird. I might give it another try. I don'y like the coils. They just dont cool as well. hardly any contact with the motor, plus it has to cool itself before the motor. I just cant believe how much grease slung around in there! Maybe I'm just noticing it cuz the hull is white..

The can on the leopard is not totally smooth so I was a little worried too but it ended up working fine. You could put some grease or maybe vaseline on it. I'd bet water is coming up through the flex shaft if you have lots of grease coming out too.

Maybe, buuut my second run with the coil was dry. Except the grease.

Picked up the boat last night from my brother-in-law. Clear coat looks nice. I may try running with the silicone jacket but order the aluminum anyways. The mount I used should give me just enough room to use the aluminum cooler if needed. Thanks for the warning on the grease, I usually use a piece of water line or shrink over the end of the flex and stuffing tube and that helps with the grease and water problem. I have the heavier of the 3 AQ turn fins so we'll see how bad the flex is. Hope to get this boat in the water this week.

Hey Rumdog. Have you run your boat again? Getting ready to run mine the first time this weekend. Wondering if you have any setup tips you'd like to share such as strut depth, prop used, etc. Thanks

Yep. Ran 3 times so far. Shot more clear, and my windshield. Wet sanded, and polished. It looks 100 times better! So far, I've only ran the prather 220. Temps are pretty cool. My last run went awesome. Strut at .740" deep. About 1 deg positive, maybe less. This hull likes speed! No hints of prop walk at all. The sponson spread is sooo wide on these hulls! So far, I love it. Got a ABC H-6 coming in the mail soon. Cant wait to give that guy a rip. Tomorrow, I'll try a x645. Should rip!

I think you mean sponson chine walk. Prop walk is a different animal.
