thanks
Thank you. I keep trying to do new things to spread ideas to help out the OSE team. Did you see my latest test with the surface coat test for epoxy composites? Still trying to get that one just right. I have three hulls laid up so far experimenting and quite a few hatch covers!
That whole child being born thing got in the way a bit. number 5 on daddy's "gut" pillow here!

Idea
OK, have an idea on these. It is going to be two months before I have enough open water to run one of these, at least 6 weeks.
So, two questions: One, does anyone have a boat that they could install one of these on to do some testing and see what breaks first? They would need to have the boat and be able to assemble it quickly and have open water for testing. Provide feedback and see how it goes. i figure I should have the new gimble part cast by next weekend, so it could mail out Monday. Does anyone out there fit this scenario?
Two, once testing shows they work, what would people want to pay for something like this and how much of it done?
Option 1 would be the three raw castings from a high performance urethane resin. Basically the same way that I pull them from the silicone molds. I will have some drawings and photos showing what size to drill and tap holes for the assembly, and then drill your prop shaft housing.
Option 2 would be to have the holes drilled and tapped, parts assembled, prop shaft hole drilled.
Optional part: I need to make the trim cylinders still. Those will be from 5/16 aluminum, machined and tapped for trim adjustment. I can provide these or provide a sketch if you want to make them yourselves.
all castings would be in the raw, I figure let other people paint them how they want to.
I wouldn't mind selling some to recover the cost of the raw materials for making the molds and the test resin I know I will use up. This stuff gets expensive and takes up a lot of time. As of right now, I should have just bought a new outdrive!
So, who would want what and what would be a fair price. keep in mind, what you pay pretty much goes back into the raw material fund for making and creating new stuff! I am not getting rich off of this hobby!
Thank you for the feedback and compliments, it is appreciated.

Never mind the sneakers, set them up making boat parts. Now that my kids are older (14 and 17) I use my gut to set my coffee cup on. I fall asleep in my chair with my laptop on my lap and a cup of coffee balancing on my stomach. My sons wake me up laughing, they can't believe I can sleep like that and nothing spills or falls. LOL
Your baby looks beautiful and the outdrive looks great too. Enjoy the kids Brian they grow up WAY too fast!

Brian are you designing these for the 40" Scarab hull? I put my hull back on the shelf after deciding not to put outboards on it at this time. Too many projects this winter and it looks like I might be happy that I waited.
As far as the air bubbles have you thought about a way to possibly vibrate them out?

I thought about making a simple vacuum chamber to try to deair the mixed resin. I think it has about a 7-10 minutes pot life, so it would work trying to degas the resin some before pouring it into the mold. I will have to try both methods.
The last two times, I wasn't prepped for pouring the resin quickly so it was delayed, I think that caused some air entrapment.
I am making this for the 40" scarab, even though it is scaled more for twins on a 55" scarab. Still, I think it will work. I have to raise the drive all the way to get it to work as a surface drive with the flex coming out of the bottom of the vee. If I lower it to a semi-surface or sub surface, it looks better. Still, it is a pretty big drive. Of course, twins on a large hull would look killer!
