This is for the 1717 Castle Currently. We're working on adaptation for the 5692 as well.

Good lord this thread is old. I really need to catch up on my projects!

So after fitting an LS, a 1717 and a myriad of other motors, I've settled on a 1330kv 10 pole 3500 watt motor.
That should spin up a nice size prop and give me some RPM room. I've reserved 1000kv and 800kv motors of the same size in case 1330 is too much RPM. I'm not that keen on the big monos, so not sure how it will handle higher RPM.

Anybody with a DF41 or Osprey, please chime in on RPM / Prop recommendations. I can easily calculate the amps / watts needed for the prop, but not sure what character prop and RPM range will work best with this hull.

I put a straight edge on this hull and it doesn't have any J-hook to it like the Vanquish did. This ones nice and straight. BUT, flimsy as hell. So, I mixed up a batch of super strong marine casting resin for fabrication. This stuff is stiff like steel. I use it to cast parts sometimes, lol.

I used some denatured alcohol to thin out the resin and increase the set time to make sure it saturated the cloth really well. No doubt this one's nice and solid now.

I spent about two hours gently rocking the hull to ensure a nice even coat all the way up until the time it set. As it was thickening but still a melting gel I used an acid brush to spread out the resin.

          1330 on 6 or 8S?
what I can reccomend without building a mono but from reading is that mono's like the 30-35k rpm range with bigger props, the opposite of cats.
I thought osprey's were built with a hook in the hull on purpose?

Hmmm. All I know about the hook is it caused problems for most guys to get them on plane.

I think I'll go 6s and 1330kv. The hull is big enough, A 450 + sized prop seems appropriate.

            Peanut gallery? What say ye?

It's comments like this that really mislead folks into making mistakes and wasting money. I suggest that we choose your experts from those with actual experience. I have race-winning 55 mph P-monos which thrive on 25,000 rpm, just like many of my cats do. What really matters with any hull is the prop size which drives the boat the best. Small-diameter high-rpm props can work well with smaller monos on smoother water but they can blow out in rougher water. Larger diameter props can cause handling problems - particularly on narrow mono hulls.

Choose the prop size which gives the best overall performance, then pick the motor which gives the speed you want. Many monos can't handle speeds above 50-55 mph anyway so trying for higher speeds can be counterproductive. In general, 35,000 rpm is best suited for SAW-type running. Most sport boaters would be better served with prop speeds at or below 30,000 rpm. A 1330 Kv motor on 6S will give around 27,000 rpm loaded on the water, near-perfect for many/most larger hulls.

Ben I'm running a CC1717 with a ice 240 on 6s2p with a x447/3 and it runs on rails. I hope to get some video soon of her. Great running hull!

Sweet! I've been wondering how the 1717 worked out in this hull! Did you straighten out the "hook" on the bottom, I sorta recall the thread about it, but a bit fuzzy.

Nope just gutted the inside, installed your 1717 motor mount, re-epoxied the servo mount and stuffing tubeand running a .187 3/16 cable.

Updates, it's almost ready for water!

One of the things I've started doing is laying out 5 or 6 projects and working a little bit on each one as time and parts allows. This is because the shop has become quite busy and the other half has been demanding with my time as well. Hard to keep a balance.

Now just need to figure out a retaining system for the lipos... I don't think velcro will be enough if it flips hard in a big wave.

Lol, yeah, they are close. Since they are the windings, they are very stiff and hold position. The ESC is silicone'd in place so should be OK. I've run a few like this before. Funny how everything want's to be so close to the motor when you run and outrunner. lol.

Jacked- It's a 7 layer suspended aluminum pcb with 72 LV high amp FETs, 8 inches long and 4 inches wide and about an inch deep. Doesn't fit too well in LV boats, lol..
