the one on the left is the new one. Ya know I run the one on the right it my Micro hydros it is fun too. I need to finish my droped sponson hydro. to put this one in.
Well today I tried to fix the propshaft again. Seemed strong this time.
I took it out to the pond today and threw it in. I started off slow and got into it. It popped up on plane for about 1' at about 2/3 throttle then the wire drive broke loose again...
With the 3S 15C batteries this thing has some SERIOUS torque. Randy isnt kidding. If this thing had full bite from a dead start it would probably flip. If I ease into it I think it might be fine though.
I have a Jeff Wholt wire drive in the mail. Hopefully mid week I can get it into the pond again.
To solder a wire drive correctly the actual wire has to heat up to the same temp as the solder to bond correctly. This can severely weaken the metal though.
I got my wire drive from Jeff Wholt installed this morning and decided to take the MP out to the pond.
My first few seconds I knew something was up. I thought I was spinning the drive shaft again- I was at the coupler. I am using a stock AQ Reef Racer 2 coupler. So I tightened down the two screws more.
My first real try was on 3S 1000 Mah 15C batts. The one Randy said would be to much power. The boat really cavitates bad- wont go on plane. Every now and then I could get it up @ about 75% throttle. It would skip across the water pretty crazy...
So I got brave. Got it on plane then eased into it... Simply insane! The prop and rudder was the only thing in the water. If the hull was in the water, it was just the last 1/4" of it...
Every time I was in this position I would hit a small rogue wave (got wind gusts) and it would blow the boat over. I must of flipped it 6 or more times. Always self righted!?
I tried it on 2S. Couldnt get on plane at all.
I got two issues I think:
1) Rudder is to close to the prop
2) Servo is to weak when power is applied.
Gonna try and fix these issues soon and try again!
Try to get some video's of this thing if you can. Many of us are having fun playing with these smaller outrunners.
Randy, that 2836 is what I have in my 1/10 cracker boxes. have only run it on 2s with 31 to 35mm props, works well and amperage was pretty low, upper teens I think? Have not tride it on 3s yet. That is a fully submerged prop also. It seems like a torquey motor.
I have been thinking of that 2632 outrunner for some experimenting. Have a small delta force 16" hydro that the 2845-3600 turnigy seems like it is too much for it. that 2632 might work well. i wonder if it would spin a 32mm 3 blade venom prop in a light hydro?
Go to a 30mm prop at least and you will see a difference with 2s battery. You might be able to go bigger but need to watch motor temp. I have a 3800kv motor in my mini-c and it works the best on a 2s battery. Hope this helps some.
I ran the boat for the first time with the new motor, small prop will not work I ran a M435/3 and it was too fast for the boat. Then I ran a Y535 and it was just right. Video at Heather Farms. I think this set up could run for 10 or 15 minutes no problem. I had 2S2P 2500Mah total of 5000Mah on board and used 10% out of one pack.
Well it didnt work out for today, and tomorrow is no go also.
Tornado ripped through the area, and the pond I run at is where the Police station is. The station is now flat... Dead people around...
Suck, I lost a boat in Michigan at the nats due to a tornado. I was on the pond in a row boat luckily I heard every one yelling at me and I came in and did not get killed.

I decided to head out to the quarry today and not that pond.
I did some work to the boat since my last go. I moved the rudder back another 1/2" I also put in a new servo that was stronger than the previous.
I put on the 30 mm prop as suggested. I went with the 1300 mah 2S battery.
I am very happy with the speed. I need some work to get the porposing and chine walking fixed though. I need more rudder throw- doesnt turn as good as it should (I think).
Run time was insane. I got like 8 minutes recorded in total on one charge. Theres 2 other minutes of flips and mishaps I took out. Ended up with 3 videos. Will post to video section tonight.
Move your CG forward a touch and it should fix both...
If extra rudder throw doesn't help, you may need turn fins with the rudder being behind the prop. I know that's common, but the length of the rudder extension relative to the hull length is very large compared to most setups. Have you thought about a rudder offset from the strut? (even w/ the drivedog)
