just make sure you can fit 5S packs in this cat. I have some Turnigy 20C 5S 5000's that just barely slip into the sponsons. Too big to lay on the tunnel.Nortavlag Bulc

Am I safe on 5s as long as the KV is around 35k?
Since were already going in this direction, how about about a 540 17L or 18L on 6s?
They have a max Amps of 38 and at 22.2V gets about 32-33k RPM
With 80 max amps between two motors, probably less as a dual setup I could possibly just use one 6s 5000maH (Two 3s in Series) pack?
What would you all personally choose/recommend?Comment

The trade off is weight. I don't see the need to go to super low KV motors. Personally I would go 14L on 5S - yes twins should draw significantly fewer amps"Look good doin' it"

Well the reason I am looking into the really low KV is that I could use a single 6s1p only drawing about 65-70 total max amps with 2 540 17Ls. Is that too high of a voltage for those motors? or would that setup be able to run on 6s1p???????Comment

that's alot of rpms and if the props are to much that will add more draw.NAMBA20...Caterpillar UL-1, P-Spec OM29, P-Mono DF33, P-Spec JAE, Aussie 33" Hydro-LSH, Sprintcat CC2028 on 8s, PT SS45 Q Hydro, PS295 UL-1 power, OSE Brothers Outlaw QMono 4-sale, Rio 51z CC2028 on 8sComment

Going up a few post and a page back, I use a general cutting blade on a bandsaw at a med low speed and it cuts beautifully.
Obrien, how about making the motor mount side plates from carbon rather than painting them? That would look very nice in that hull.Comment

This build is cool. I wanted to comment last night, but had to find something first - an issue of RCBM from Fall 1988 that has a twin 80 Twin Craft mono (46"). John Finch did an article of this build for SAW running.
From the looks of it, he also used flex shafts out of the bottom of the hull, but the prop height looked similar to that of a single surface drive mono. His spacing was a little wider than yours, but his mono had a shallower vee angle.
You build looks great, love the carbon work. I would flip the strut brackets though, to get them a bit higher. I'd be concerned that they'll be getting hit with water off the transom when running if they're too low.Comment

Thanks for all the feed back guys.
Brushless55: Ive decided to just use two 540 12Ls on 4s2p, ill be running 40mm carbon props to begin with and will hopefully get some 42mm brass eventually depending on how hot its running
tiqueman: I actually made some of the side plates out of the cf plate but they didnt come out as nice as I wanted them to. I preped the existing ones and spray painted them and they look real nice, probably better then the cf ones would have looked surpisingly
Thanks Scott and vvvvvv.... : Hearing that other people had success with a dual mono gives me some more confidence, I found some pics and video of the MHZ Kiton and looks pretty close in setup to this, maybe the props are a little higher though. I just hope mine runs as nice... These are a few of the videos I found of it running
And heres some pics that kind of compare my setup to the Kitons setup and the motor mountComment

Slowly making some progress
BTW does anyone know a good place to find bolts for my struts? The local Hardware Store and Home Depot/Lowes have no selection, only cheap flat head bolts that look like crapComment

Ok guys I got everything ordered in the last few days and all should be here by the end of the week. I actually went with 5s1p 5800 30C Lipo to run both drives.
1x5s1p 5800 30C Lipo
2x540 13L (2000KV)
2xTuringy 180 Brushless ESC
2xWatt Meter to analyze power of both drives
1xWireless Temp Tracker
2x40mm L/R Carbon Props
Tons of gold connectors
I also ordered a new radio system, Futuba 4EX FM 72 mHz, does anyone have any good experience with this radio?Comment

Hey Obrien, build is looking great!
Im running a twin cat on 6S1P, although it works well, it doesnt run for long. If you can fit 5S2P, do it, from what I hear from other twin builds, the speed doesnt change much from the weight, and the 2P config may even give you a bit more. Im wanting to run 2P in mine but it just wont fit.
As for bolts, I went to a local fastener place that sells bolts etc for construction, they are able to order me anything I need from there distributors and all in stainless. I think it was called Fasten-All.
I cant wait to see this run. This is an awesome build!
