I'm looking forward to seeing your build. I saw a MHZ Gecko done with twin drive, mind you it was only 15" long but, very cool. The builder said it was quite stable running with a pair of 380 brushed motors. Waaay over powered.

If I would build a twin Mono, I would use a center rudder like the guy that did the twin Gecko.

Heck, maybe I could turn my DF 26 into a twin drive with twin 28mm Turnigy Typhoon motors... Cool idea!!

      Totally false.

I've seen twin drive surface setups on gas monos and electric. Where do you get your info from?

There is even a picture of one in the first or second Testament of RC Boat Bibles (Referring to Air Ages' "Guide to RC boating Basics" and the "Advanced" information book.)

This has stirred my inerest as well. I could easily convert my DF26 to twin motors as I said above. would be fun. I would only need 40 - 60 amp esc;s and carbon props. Wire drive is simpler than flex also.

I noticed that twins (my 38" intruder) really do draw much less... Should have eagle treed it, but was running BJ motors on their ESCs (45amp) and 6S with 440 props - upper 50s... never got above 90degF. I would bet that a 26" or even 33" mono would draw under 60amps per ESC if not fewer than 40...

Yes wire drive is much better, go .078 - .098" - Jeff Wholt set me up with the wire drives.

tell me, what does a mono do when it turns? It banks to one side. What will happen to the outside prop? It will unload the motor. Once that prop goes back in the water, amp spikes will be very high. Also since the struts will not be close to the keel, chances are the props will not run deep enough. My info is just common sense. Im not saying dont do it. Go for it, and post up some vid when she's done.

That happens when I try to setup my twin outboard with a light load.

I "think" heavier or slower boats dont have to worry about this.

Obriens build is pretty cool. I cant wait to see the outcome.

Sorry it took so long my pic files were too large, but anyway here they are.

I have tons of play in the strut depth but will probably have them as far up as possible and drill holes in order to get the screw through since the slots only come down half way. Once I get the ideal depth I will cut the top of the strut so it is flush with the strut bracket just so it looks a litlle better

The rudder is too long and ill probably have to cut it shorter, prob to right below the water pickups.

                                Heres some more pics.

I have the struts spaced so that I can have up to 43mm props, 45's are shown in the pics. I was thinking I should have spaced it for 45's but I figured 42's would be more then enough plus as you can see anymore spacing would have put the brackets out too far. I already need to grind about a mm off of the lower outside corner of each strut bracket.

I still need to order some turn fins, auxillary water pickups, and water outlets

Im gonna have to do a carbon fiber plate for the motor mount and am thinking about doing a carbon fiber layup of the entire inside.

As far as the motors go I will probably just use two 540 10L or 11L's on 4S2P, about 60 max amps per motor. I am thinking about getting two 120A Turingys to save some money.
