    Dual/Twin Drive Delta Force 33 (2x540L)

Ive been wanting to build a dual drive mono for some time now. I have not seen many around and was looking to do something a bit different. Ive decided to use a DF 33'' hull and will prob use 2 Fiego 540 11L's on 4S with counter rotating props. I will be using a Speed Master Rudder with 5" of set back and 2 Fueller struts with 3.25" of set back. Im not sure how all of this long hardware will effect how it runs but I am really liking how it looks so far plus im looking for something different.

    So Far I have:
    DF 33" Hull
    Speedmaster Rudder
    Fueller Struts
    Motor Mounts
    Trim Tabs
    Flex Shaft/Couplers

So basically everything I need to get it ready to go other then the escs/motors/batts and some turn fins which I should have in the next few weeks

Anyways if anyone has any experience with a dual drive mono or any tips/suggestions I would really appreciate it.

Im working on mounting the rudder and struts and I will get the pics posted in the next day or two.

The reason you haven't seen many dual drive monos such as DF hulls if because it doesn't work well. The problem, being the surface drive. As soon as the hull banks into a corner, the outside prop will surface, therefore having 0 efficiency.

Thanks for the feedback. I know that turning will be a problem but im not looking to use it as an oval racer or anything like that. I really just wanted counter rotating props so it will be more stable than some of my other monos. I also thought that i could raise and lower the struts some or even use a bigger prop on the outside in order to keep it in a bit more. Thats something I can mess around with once I get bored with the straight runs.

What do you think about 540Ls on 4S???

I think you should use twin Turnigy Typhoon 500 motors. For $25 each, they can't be beat.

They will be sold out by Monday I bet.

... and twin Super Simple esc's 100 amp versions.

          2 motors= $50

          2 esc's = $50

Some Turnigy packs and you are laughing for under $300 power package.

Nice and fast and cheap. :D

Use twin rudders, Speedmaster long .21 mono tapered rudders. Turn on a dime.

Well I already got the rudder mounted and that thing is huge, maybe even too big. As far as the motors go those typhoons look awesome and ya for 25 dollars they look like they will put off as many watts as the fiegos. The only thing is I am worried about the heat on those things. Is a watercooled mount enough to keep them at a safe temperature?

twin rudders are not needed and could be just a waste on a 33
rudder with turn fins in the better way to go

making a mono stable has to do with setup, not running twins to get the job done
also running two different size props will never work right

twin outdrives will work much better than twin indrives, but this could be loads of fun

You will need to run sub-surface drives or outboards. Twin surface drives will not work.

                      plus same size props

No I dont actually plan on running diff size props but it would be fun to experiment with and maybe lowering the outside strut if I were to try some oval stuff.

I have plenty of play in the depth I can put the props at, if I were to run submerged props what size props and what motor would you use?

Pics coming up now once I figure the posting out

that's not going to be stable or run right at all.
that hull will be all over the place

Ok well I am building this boat as something different, there are 1000's of other monos out there with a single motor and the exact same setup. I wanted to build a dual cat but there are also tons of those around now too. This is something different and I am confident that it will work fine even if the prop depth during turns isnt ideal.
