I used the 5.5 bullets from Steven. I took one with me to the LHS and got a solid rod that would go thru the soldering holes. Its snug on one and a little loose on the other. Cant remember which, be it the male or female bullet. Anyway, It really locked together well. Ive since wrapped them in shrink wrap, but I need to find a wrap that will go more than 2:1. I will post some pics of them and some progress I made yesterday and today shortly.Comment

Updates
Got the front filled w/ flotation and the bulkhead glassed in. Sevo mount is installed, got the Octura rudder, but Im not quite sure if its going to be large enough. I think its the same size as the EKOS, and in scale relationship, its the same ratio if not a tad more than what the HPR06 w/ the HPR rudder. Guess time will tell. Also installed one side of the batt hold down, just to see how it will work and how things will fit. Wow, talk about no room. Motor doesnt quite slide in as it did before, but still goes in easily, just w/ a little "puzzle" like installation. Hope I get my stingers tomorrow or Sat. I want to get this thing wet Sunday.....Comment

Scott,
I like your idea putting the cells on the tunnel floor.
I would like to build a cat with the motor esc and lipos in the middle of the hull .
I really think these type of cats would handle better.
With the weight in the middle, The hull tends to roll around the center line faster and return to its normal position. There for giving the hull better handling characteristics.
Which i think would make the hull faster.

Generally keeping your weight at the lowest part of the sponson is better. But with twins the motors may keep the weight lower since lipos are light.

Thats my thought as well. I would think that it would handle better w/ everything as low as possible. Had I been able to put the cells in the sponsons, I probably would have done that as well. But it would be interesting to find out if there is much of a difference. Ive seen one, I think it was on OSE, where the motors were on the tunnel w/ the ESC's. I think the batteries were down in the sponsons. Cant remember....Comment

Progress report and help w/ water pick ups
Got a bit done today. Going to give it another hour and call it quits for this evening. Got the stingers in
Slightly modded the back of them. I drilled into them about 3/16 deep, with a 1/4" bit. Being from HOTR, they were set up w/ led bearings for 4mm shafts. Anyway, I drilled as stated and built my own bushings using 1/4" and 7/32. So they slide into the stinger nice and snug and now my 3/16 shaft works like a champ.
Flex shafts have been cut and all is installed. Shafts are just pushed in for now (not tightened) as I will make final adjustments and load her up w/ grease when its ready to get wet. And awww man.. I still have 2 props to sharpen and balance.
Which leads mt to my question. Ive got 2 options for water pick-ups. They will be mounted in the sponsons. I recently did the (bend tube) method on my single drive cat and it works pretty well. But it doesnt push as much water out the side as the old rudder pick up or Gundert pick ups, which were removed because they were causing uncontrollable characteristics in the hull. Anyway, should I go the "bent tube" method on this, or use these that I got from Steven? See pic of aluminum picj up and tubing.
Then build my control cables for the rudder and mount all that up... Man, I still have a lot to do....
Also is a pic of my 32" single drive cat, so you can see what I mean when I say "bent tube" method. A crappy picture yes, but Im too lazy to go pull it off the shelf and take a better one.

I'd sell that rudder and get the one from the EKOS. I'm guessing it's going to be too small. Plus, then you'll have 2 rudder pickups. 2 birds with one stone.Comment

According to the specs on Tower, the EKOS rudder is smaller? And I want my pickups thru hull.. Dont want antennas or hoses stickin outta the boat... But thanks anyway.. I did consider that one before. If I do have rudder issues, I will wait and splurge on a HPR rudder or the other one posted earlier in this thread, similar to the HPR... cant remember who made them...

the standard hotr type rudder steven sells works well.
is this the boat with the motors mounted in the centre you was thinking of ?

Nope, not the one, but same concept. It was in an offshore type cat similar to the HOTR cat.
The reason I didnt go w/ the "proven design" HOTR rudder as the one Steven sells.....

Well I decided to try out the aluminum pick ups I got from Steven. They sure do look nice. I got one installed. I had to work it a little bit so it would flush out w/ the bottom of the hull. I test fit it 100 times, then when I tacked it w/ epoxy, it seemed I couldnt get it to set right. Not worth pulling out though. Its about a paint layer difference, so I will feather it in when I paint the bottom and be done w/ it.
Check out the craziness for the water lines. Took 3 tries to get them routed w/out interfering w/ one another. ......Ahhhh, and now that I think about what I did.. I went to the motor first, then the ESC.... Looks like I will be configuring yet again.
Got the steering all hooked up as well. I need to get some swivel links rather then the clips I used so that the cable can come in under the servo arm. Coming to it, as it is, creates quite an arch from the servo arm, thru the hull and back up to the rudder tillers.
Little crap at the end always takes the longest!Comment
