    Heading Hold Gyro on Rudder

Anybody ever attempted to mount a heading hold gyro to the rudder for high speed runs? I have one from a crashed helicopter of my buddies, but i don't know anything about them..

My question is why would you need one?

Just do negative expo on your Tx.

I know this guy grael over on RCU in the jet drive thread has used them in jet boats that he designed & built himself. He said it did make a difference. But he wasn't trying to run strait just trying to keep going in one direction or another instead of having the waves just push you around. The steering on a jet boat is more responsive though and is always sharper. The other thing is without the jet drive running you have no steering. Anyway, I thought I would try it too especially when running on the creek.

How would "negative expo" make the boat run on a single heading? It would not. Using a gyro has been tried on canard surfaces to prevent blowoffs without much success, but using it to maintain a heading is a novel idea for SAW running. Keeping the boat on the correct heading is a problem in SAW competition, the use of a gyro could be helpful if it works better than previous gyro trials. As gyros improve this application could work.

Have you experimented with a heading gyro yet? I have one just sitting around and might do some testing but wanted to see if you are pursuing this idea?

Wait, you said that gyro came out of a CRASHED heli? LOL
Should be interesting to see how the gyro helps, keep us updated.
