why dont you use the strut you have its perfect. it needs a strut for stability. And that rudder is WAY to small. i used that rudder in my mini v and it was barely long enough. its made for hydros. when that thing gets on plane like 20mm of rudder will be in the water which will barely make it turn at all.i just ordered my rudder of ebay for $12 mines 75mm with dual water intakes and a it makes it stick out from the transom further than the smae one from ose. your rudder is 52mm which is micro for that size cat. my 14" mini c is 50% bigger than your rudder. trust me. ive tried it!!!lol

her you go. this is one of like 50 of them. $12 with free shipping. the 75mm is probably perfect for your boat. they also have a 95mm version but i think thats too much

Looks good pepperson but i think the mounting bracket is to hight for this little boat, the rear end is very thin or shallow, ill have to measure it tonight and see.

              rudder

              Ebay item

Works great on my 1/16 hydro which is 22" long I think. Should work fine on a 18.5" cat. 67mm tall, will fit the transom also.

Here is the hull I have. It is only .040 HIPS, but I am thinking about roughing it up on the inside, lay it back in the vacuum mold and glass/carbon the inside of it. That would make it strong enough. I also wanted to make it a single drive, but I might go twin with the 2632 outrunners, still not sure.

How do you solve the strut issue with a single drive? do you go with an offset rudder?

either just bolt a bracket to the transom and the rudder to that. or just drill another hole in the mount closer to one of them and use that. with a 18.5" boiat you might even need a 95mm rudder.

Well i think im going to order the one befu is showing i like that one and just measured the transom of mine and it will just fit....Im trying to glue the hull now but its not easy,,fitted it together and its so tight its splitting the tips so i put glue on the tips first cuz i can still move the rear alittle to make the sides even...will update more as i do it..

67mm of rudder is plenty for this boat, it is only 18.5" long!

Yeah, it is touchy to put together. I should do a video of it. First thing I do is sand the two parts down to the proper lines. The hull is where it "flares" out from the vacuum forming. Sand it down until that flare is gone. The deck is wher it flare in from the undercut on the mold. I use a disk sander to get it to the proper spot, then touch it up with a sanding block.

I could do all of that, but that is a lot of time and I was hoping to be able to get a cheap mystic vacuum formed hull into peoples hands. Might not be possible for me.

That rudder is nice, turns my hydro no problem and looks sharp.

I ordered that rudder last night, would be nice if i could figure out a way to make it an inline rudder/strut i think that would work alot better because how small the transom is,,As for the saleing theseits hard to beat hk's 23 dollar fg hulls..

                          Wow!

OK, what gloe did you use? Was this on putting in the glass or on gluing the two halves together? If together can you get them back apart?

Let me know the above. I will send out new hull/deck pieces for you, have some out in the garage. That stinks! Please let us know what glue you used.

You have made more progress than me, I want to see one of these things run!

Thanks Brian, i used the blue tube of nontoxic model glue it worked fine in the other areas but when i went up both sides i had to take a flat head screw driver to open it up just a hair and squeazed the glue in there then squeazed the sides together for a few seconds,,thought it was fine but looked again after an hour or so and it was wavy,,what sucks is i just put on the strut and noticed it...not to mention the two sponson tips started to split just from the pressure of putting the top onto the bottom,,what did i do wrong..

Give me a couple of days to try something at home before you do anything else.

Glue, I use the water thin plastic cement. Has a little brush on the end and it will wick into seams. touch it together and hold for about 10 seconds. As soon as the MEK evaporates, it is glued.

I do not know that much about the paste, but from the wavyness of it I am going to assume that it holds to much solvent agaist the plastic for too long. Fumes weakened the plastic and made it stretch. Did the plastic pop off of the fiberglass inside or did it also cause the fiberglass to go wavy?

Give me a couple of days to try something and I will get back with you. Your the only one trying this, so I will make sure you are taken care of on this little hull.
