No I do not think it will be stright. It will have a bend in it to go threw the hull. The prop will be a drive dog length past the transom. Just like in scale.Comment

My entire plan here was to be fun and this is not fun, I think the problem with the 1/10 CBs was everyone thought it was a great starter class but that was not the case, The reason it died had little to do with the prop being under the hull but that they are a hand full to drive and tune just like the real ones are. I know with some tuning this can work, I am actually thinking about saying is this worth it??? I am really quite open and will give it a lot of thought. My personal problem is this is the key concept part of a Crackerbox that makes it a Crackerbox and without it, its just another fe mono.Comment

No one is asking anyone to bow out, I am not against a vote but would prefer only those who are interested in racing this class take part. But let me ask you a question, if the majority of "racers" vote was for an under the hull set up would you still build one?? I would with either set up.Comment

Since you're trying to find out what works in competition, it makes sense to try pretty much anything at this first race. Simple things like putting the prop under the hull or within 1 drive dog of the transom are good things to keep. Having the stuffing box straight might be too much at this point - experiment in Colorado by running both and comparing handling and lap times. If there's a huge difference in handling, think about what effect that should have on the rules. If there's no difference, don't make it too hard on the builders.
When it gets too technical or too restrictive on the hull rules, stop and think SPIRIT OF instead of DUPLICATE OF. One thing that always kept me from running 1/8 was the asinine rules about one per district and the hull registry and the insane detail. That's why I always went Sport instead. Some guys like doing the detail - I prefer to run a boat that Dennis could run over w/o getting me too upset at him.
You know we did this with LSH 10 years ago. We ended up with ALMOST EXACTLY the same rules that I had put together for the initial proposal. Sometimes it makes sense to just TRY IT. Maybe it'll work as-is.

I really am that guy you met, I hate pi$$ing contests, only thought this may be a starting point to be built upon and am open to ideas, I feel its best that all boats are on the same page. We will give this a lot of consideration and go from there.Comment

Thanks I can live with it either way, I really like to discuss things. This way I feel you are informed. Thanks for your patience. And again Sorry if I pissed any one off it was not my intention.Comment

Prop Placement question??
I have given this a lot of thought and certainly don't want to drive anyone who might want to run Crackerboxes away. As this is NOT a rules proposal but more along the line of a starting point agreement I should be open to ideas even if it against my thoughts on the subject. So I offer something like this as a starting point. The choice would be:
A) A straight shat housing(Stuffing Tube) with the entire prop, strut and drive assemby under the transome.
B) A complete sub surface drive with the entire strut under the hull and a portion of the drive dog must be under the transome. Only the remaining portion of the drive dog and prop may exceed past the transome.
Boats may be built with either of the listed set ups at the builders disgretion.
At this point this is for conversation and not proposal for the FE Nats.Comment

Guys, sorry to get into your discussion like this, but looking from the outside you get much too passionate about something that should be fun...
I do not have a CB (yet) and I am not even on the same continent, so take it as you will...
Get some ideas from the scale boats guys, especially the Springer class: standard hull drawing (same for everyone), superstructure at builder's choice. Limit the power of the motor (Watt, can size) if you want, but you know better that there is a limit on how high you can go with it before it becomes uncontrollable...
Want to do it a driving contest? Use the same exact FG hull for everybody, with the same exact motor / hardware.
Want complete fun? Have the same hull drawing and let everybody get as mental as they want, as far as they can control the damn thing...
Sorry again if it sounds out of place,

Hi Sailr
I don't know if your still reading this , you have said a couple times this isn't a scale class.
Read the title of this thread again.
1/6th Scale Crackerbox - Ruleset.
The orginal intent of this discussion was a 1/6 Scale crackerbox . It wasnt a flat bottom spec mono class .
I hope it remains a scale class for those who are interested in scale .
