question is, will we? Remember, this is a FUN class, NOT a SCALE class.

Darin,
Even LSH doesn't have such restrictive rules. We RACE spec hydros and have a blast but you can run any hull within wide parameters. My only point is with 1/6 CB why are we being so damned anal with the rules? I agree we have to have rules but the way they are being proposed is more like a scale class than a fun class. YES, A RACED FUN CLASS like all of the other Spec classes. If you want to have a scale class that is so restrictive, IMHO you will drive more people away than you will attract and once again CB will die. I WANT 1/6 CB to thrive! It could be a really competitive and yes, FUN (not play time as you so rudely suggest) racing class.
You and others modified the UL-1 hulls with ride pads, AOA, etc. and nobody said that was against the rules and we/they run them all the time in spec hydro. If somebody wants to add a chine to a CB, how is that so different? If we start getting out the micrometers at every race, I know my club, for one, will say to hell with it.

There is a HUGE difference between racing a Sport Hydro class, where you are racing a TYPE of boat (Sport Hydro), and racing a class where you are racing ONE DESIGN of a boat... in this case... a version of a Mono hull (Type of hull), called a "Crackerbox" (particular design)...
If you guys want to race standard Monos, there are plenty of classes where that can occur...Darin E. Jordan - Renton, WA

Yes a Crackerbox, Not that hard to follow. It you don't want to build a CRACKERBOX Then by all means build another mono. Just Amazing.

The rule set that we have came up with are not at all strict as crackerbox racing goes. The class is not that restrictive, and is quite open in several areas. But not completely open, as no rules ever are. The rules and guide lines are given. If someone is interested in racing any given class they 1st need to look at the rules and make a decision if they do or do not want to run the class within the parameters of those rules, If one chooses to paticipate they build using the rules as thier guide. If not, they move to a class that better suits thier interest. There are many classes in the world of FE boat racing and all come with some drawbacks, But something they all have in common are rules and are meant in the spirit of having fun. So I suggest guys pick the classes that will personally bring them the most fun and run those under that classes given rule structure. These rules can work well if given a chance. Some changes may be needed along the way. But who has ran a boat under these rules at this point in time?Comment

LOL I am guessing you have ran many since this thread started, since you were able to build "FLASHPOINT" in 9days. so it takes what 2-3 days to build a cracker box for you? LOL!!!!
a hydro from design to paint in 9 days sheesh.........Comment

Lets put the strut placement to a vote. This world is a Democratic. Just because you are CD for the Nats does not make you god! Just my Opinion, But I am loosing respect for you due to your bull headedness over this issue. When I met you at the Nats you did not look like this person you project on the web. It is only fair, I did this when I was CD. Be the good person I met at the Nats.Comment

Well, then I wish you luck with your new 1/6 CB project. This started out by people wanting to have another FUN spec class to run but you guys have turned it into a technical nightmare.
I'm out. I just don't need the grief. I'll ask Don to take my name off the list for one of Brian's CB.

Ok guys I have read all this and understand everyones point of view, Randy wants to make CB's that finish races everyone else want them more scale, thats what makes them Cracker boxes. HOW EVER THIS IS AN EXHIBITION CLASS to see what WORKS, RIGHT? Well we all know that what works in real life doesn't always work for models.
I offer this, "run the shaft however you want as long as it is not a surface drive" .
I wanted to race this class at the 2010 NATS but I think I will stick to open class boats less rules to follow!Comment

SERIOUSLY???A "technical nightmare???
They are FLAT BOTTOM boats... I'm not sure how much simpler it can get than that...
Whatever... For starters... "we" haven't turned anything into ANYTHING... It's not even a class... Secondly, the rules posted above are only a FIRST DRAFT... a suggested starting point... and they are BASED ON the 1/4-scale Gas rules, with some 1/10th scale thrown in where applicable... Last time I checked, the Gas guys don't have any technical prowess over us FE guys... funny how they seem to be able to figure out their hulls...
I think some of you are blowing this all out of proportion... Started out with the struts, which I can actually somewhat understand... but now you've taken it into wanting to change the STANDARD hull rules... I think it's YOU that have taken this too far... But WHATEVER... do as you must...Darin E. Jordan - Renton, WA
